There is no advantage to being a new scratcher, you just have more restrictions placed on you.
There is nothing you can do as a NS that you can't as a scratcher

Why would a user want to put themselves back into the restricted position once they've experienced the benefits of the Scratcher rank?

I don't see any use though, you just get more restricted. So no support.

Aside from what has been said (and repeated a lot – please, avoid posting lots of times the same argument), I wanted to add that you don't automatically become a Scratcher, but you have to accept some sort of invitation. So, if you don't want to be a Scratcher, you are free to not accept the invitation.

Just one thing that’s already said, but…

Why?

If you really don’t want to use the cloud, just sign out, or don’t touch them at all. If it was a suggestion to do something like choosing what rank to appear as I would understand, but going back…

After some thinking and realizing it would be kind of funny to have an account several years old with thousands of posts labelled as “New Scratcher”, it doesn't seem funny enough for the Scratch Team to make it a feature.
