when you create a new project, a cat sprite is always put in it. nothing else.

why a cat?
why can't it be a sprite the user wants to work with?
if you want to make a pong clone, a cat won't be of much use.

so i would like it if the user can choose what sprite is put in a new project, and have the option to have none.

I generally agree with you. More experienced scratchers should have the ability to set the default sprite to none since they never use it.

I've never complained about the cat being the default sprite. I just delete it and make whatever I make. It never gets annoying, its pretty much something I do without thinking about it.

And how exactly would you set something as the default sprite? Is there some button?

well, i'd imagine an option located under the button that makes a copy of the project you are looking in that says “set default sprite”. when clicked on it would be like the “choose a sprite” thing but with those words replaces with “pick a default sprite”.

I think you should be able to right-click a sprite and the already existing dropdown should have a new option called “make default sprite” or something like that.

I support this. It would be super helpful, especially if there was a way to have a custom sprite (one uploaded from your computer) be the default.

as i said, if you want to make a pong clone, a cat won't be of much use. having the ability to set the default sprite will be very useful, especally when the user has a 30-minute time limit.
