The ST know about this already- I think they're waiting for more information before taking action. Either that, or I just haven't checked Announcements yet.

I'm not sure if we have all the information.

After all, VPNs aren't the only workaround, and it seems nobody is quite sure if this is only mainland China.

No, it's because the CCP saw some stuff they didn't like, including, but not limited to, Hong Kong and Taiwan being listed as countries. The ban might be permanent if Scratch doesn't clearly show communist views. That is, if you're talking about why China banned Scratch.

Aaah. Scratch Should Ban Communist Views for Some Countries. But not Worldwide.

[insert some quotes of above posts here, I can't quote a single one of them without half of this statement not making sense]
But freedom of speech is legal in the US, where Scratch is based and where most users live. Banning freedom of speech just so China is happy would be silly.

Exactly, that's why China banned Scratch.

no

a bit more complicated than that

to quote someone better at explaining than me:

It's basically been confirmed that this is over something different… Plus there's plenty of other American-made websites that aren't banned in China, so saying that this is the reason why doesn't seem like a good reason to me-

Yeah…
Also, wouldn't banning freedom of speech be illegal?
It's literally in the Constitution.

Oh gosh.
So… all the accounts from china (20K) will be inactive.
But the good news is: The Chinese people are allowed to use VPNs

The only problem is that Scratch would not be able to work if the Chinese Government ever decide to ban VPNs.

As for the rest of the topic, I think one way this could be solved (even though the Scratch Team might reject it), is to have Chinese users have locations such as Taiwan, Hong Kong etc. display as ‘China’ to them.
and macao too

I'm curious: what about Scratch is disrespectful about China? Please keep in mind many of us do not come from there so it's somewhat hard to get the full context of your point of view.
well for one, some people don't respect the ccp > second, as everyone is saying, taiwan and hongkong and macao are listed as seperate countries :\

There's also the projects about China. I can understand if they're offended by the content, but it's not like Scratch was specifically targeting them.
