Why do so many generic platformers get top loved?
ikr, Imma try make a platformer in JS and HTML and then compare it to scratchYeah. Making a pen engine is also not that hard, only one day, but mostly it's not even that. I can create a generic platformer in half an hour its actually so simple all you need to know is simple variable logic and some logic on motion blocks and thats it.

I mean, one day! That's more then enough for some hitbox math. But those are rare too, people just design levels. And they're often bad at doing it.Yes, when you understand how it's easy.Yeah. Ooof, those platformers which are only about the levels. I really dislike them. The level design is mostly poor and already done multiple times. And I also don't like those one-screen platformers too much, you're just not able to build a level really large. And those coded levels … arrrgh! Games which don't execute using a list make me mad. Why do so many generic platformers get top loved?
Griffpatch's getting over it was in the top remixed…Well, the remix bar is pretty much always full of garbage, I almost never look at it. It just says how remixable a project is - one of the things I really don't care about. But top loved, that's an entirely different thing. Top loved means that it's popular, and how should your project get popular without being good? Remember that the top loved and top remixed rows are pretty much entirely just about popularity - not about “quality”, however you want to define that.

Why do so many generic platformers get top loved?
It kind of has for me too, except the people I'm following are usually not interested in the same things I am so I rarely find good things there. I've basically given up on finding projects I like at this point. The “Projects loved by Scratchers I'm following” pane has taken the place of the explore tab for me, because it's the only area on this website not infested by platformers.
One would question why you are following them then, why not follow people who are interested in similar things to you?
To answer the original question, I guess they are popular because they are popular! Can't really complain about what people like, just keep on doing what makes you happy, and you'll find an audience that appreciates you

Why do so many generic platformers get top loved?
Just because I'm not interested in MAPs and art does not mean the creator is not a nice person. Just because I used to be interested in a certain type of project doesn't mean I still am, and it also doesn't mean that I have the heart to unfollow them for nearly no reason. It kind of has for me too, except the people I'm following are usually not interested in the same things I am so I rarely find good things there. All fair points, I was just curious…

Why do so many generic platformers get top loved?
[deleted because I don't feel my opinion is welcome, and I can't do anything right because I strongly believe in something and I apparently am, and at this point I feel like I am, acting like an unconstructive jerk]

Why do so many generic platformers get top loved?
I'd like to point out that many of these users are new to making platformers, as I've noticed. The ones who aren't new to them have much unused potential that can be used to create something great.
I don't want to touch too much on this in order to prevent naming and shaming / hurting someone's feelings. I'll just say that users who make these must think deeply about what they've created and edify it. Everyone has potential, but some are unwilling to apply it.

Just ignore it if you don't like it, and let people make the projects they want to make, without having their work called ‘generic’ or ‘bad’, or people saying it doesn't deserve its fame.ignoring something doesn't solve the issue
if we said that to every project, that means inappropriate projects would be allowed, because if you don't like it, just ignore it.

Why do so many generic platformers get top loved?
people probably love platformers so much because if they're good, they took a lot of code.

Why do so many generic platformers get top loved?
The thing is, a lot of people use engines. The code is not theirs, it took a few seconds to remix it or backpack the sprites, then they just change up the art a little so it has a color theme. people probably love platformers so much because if they're good, they took a lot of code.

Why do so many generic platformers get top loved?
Oh, so it's okay to be disrespectful? It's okay to call people's work “generic” or “bad”? Last time I checked, it's not.Just ignore it if you don't like it, and let people make the projects they want to make, without having their work called ‘generic’ or ‘bad’, or people saying it doesn't deserve its fame. That's how narcissism develops.
It's like asking a herd of cows why they like to eat grass. They just do.Be constructive.
When commenting on others' projects, say something you like about it and offer suggestions.

Nice to see my opinion isn't welcome here. I'll see myself out.

I'm going to be constructive here and say something that you should do when responding to posts you don't agree with; read and re-read the post you're responding to before saying anything. I never said that's a bad thing, and that it shouldn't be allowed. I said it does teach them things, I just implied that they're not the best things to learn. I am sure that you will agree that it would be more beneficial to learn how to make a game of your own than to learn how to use the fill tool on someone else's.People can remix projects if they want. Even if it's a minor change. It teaches them how to backpack and use the fill tool. Is that enough? Generic platformers don't teach people a lot despite what people say

When I think about it, you're right.
