i am getting bored. i need a random forest. to get there, go to the bottom of your profile page, click the forest button, and once you have pressed it, now you must have a project hashtagged #forest. if you did it correctly, scratch will generate you a forest. if you have a forest generator project, give me the link.

Scratch is about creativity. If Scratch did all your work for you, then programming doesn't have a point. Sure, Scratch isn't doing EVERYTHING for you, but if this would be implemented, mark my words: people will constantly suggest more generators, more pre-programmed things. They implemented a forest generator, so they couldn't reject the suggestions. That may continue to the point where programming would be useless.

No support. Scratch is about imagination, not having everything done for you.

They're asking why this should be added and a more detailed explaination.

not that active anymore

_________

Seriously. Period. I'm not that active anymore. I've recently realised that Scratch, while good for basic programing, is just not that versatile for making games. So, I've moved on to engines like Roblox and Stencyl, which are entirely different from scratch. Farewell.

I don't see a point in this suggestion. How would it be useful?

actually scratch does alot of things for you, like making the code blocks. it stands to reason they should make forest block too.
Just because some things are done for you doesn't mean everything should.

They make the code blocks, but they don't do the programming for you. That takes “imagine” and “program” out of “Imagine, Program, Share”.

then they should do the programming for you. i dont see what the big deal is

That would STILL take away the “Imagine” and “Program” parts of Scratch.

The Scratch Team only programs blocks so that you can program for yourself. A lot of people use Scratch as a starter platform to learn other programming languages. If Scratch implemented this, then people who move onto Python or Java or other programming languages will have a hard time programming if they never learned how to program at all.

thats a sacrifice i'm willing to make for a forest button
So you want there to be almost no point in Scratch just for a silly button?

That's fine, I understand.

Motivations of Scratch aside, why on Earth would you need a button that generates a forest?
Is there something intrinsically special about forests, making them more important than, say, a mountain button?

That's what I'm saying. If this was implemented, users would begin to suggest more and more and more and more generators. The Scratch Team would not be able to reject the suggestion if they implement a forest button. However, they wouldn't be able to constantly create generators, as that would pressure the developers. If they DIDN'T implement the suggestion, that would cause a bunch of users to complain, and ask why they implement a forest button but not other ones.

People are already threatening to leave Scratch if their suggestions don't get implemented. Now imagine what could happen with this.

There. I made you a forest.
Now, the point of Scratch is how to imagine make it better.
Change the color, the size, whatever.

What's the point in making forests?

Because Scratch's whole point is to teach kids how to learn to code!
Anyway, I made my Forest Generator, can we all leave now?

You know what, here is your forest button:

Drag it into your bookmarks bar. And you'll have a forest button you can access from anywhere.
