"The core quakes in terror…

The Worm of Catastrophe (or WoC for short) is a post-MoonLord Superboss revolved around magma and destruction. It is summoned in the Underworld or the Magma Fields with the Core of Gods, but also has a 0.1% chance to spawn in the hellburst event once Moon Lord has been defeated.

It is a giant worm composed of around 120 segments (1 head, 118 body, 1 tail). Each segment shares the same life bar, like most other worm - based enemies.

Like all worms, it's immune to lava, but can sometimes take mass damage amounts when submerged in water.
___________________________________________________________________

Spawn:

The Worm of Catastrophe is summoned in either of the two specific biomes mentioned (Underworld or Magma Fields) using a Core of Gods. It has a small chance to spawn during the hellburst event but only once.
___________________________________________________________________

Behaviour:

Melee Phase:

During the Melee Phase (or phase 1), the Worm of Catastrophe acts very similar to any normal worm. It charges at the player, and sometimes performs a ‘quick dash’ similarly to the Eye of Cthulhu in expert mode and the Cursed core. This phase occurs up until the Worm gets below 65% health.

Ranger Phase:
During the Ranger Phase (phase 2), the boss will fire out lasers from it's head, sharp teeth like projectiles out of it's body segments and large lava filled, bubbles from every part. These bubbles are homing and when touched or defeated, they ‘burst’ into a large spill of lava, which inflicts the “HeatMelt” debuff. The boss will mostly stay parallel to the player's direction, and will avoid hitting them with any means of contact. This phase will last until the worm reaches 30% health.

Summoner Phase:

During the worm's final phase, it will frantically summon servants to defend it. These include lava slimes, scolders, ancient defenders and molten flyers. If more than 25 servants exist, the worm puts a shield around it (similarly to the Celestial Pillars) until the count is lowered back under 25. The worm will resume to damage the player via contact, but not focusing on them. When the Worm of Catastrophe's health reaches 0, it is defeated, along with every servant still alive.

In Expert and Catastrophe, it gains an extra buff called Nightmare Surge as well as shooting a long beam for a bit of time.

___________________________________________________________________

Notes:

• It could be to argue that the Worm of Catastrophe spawning in the hellburst event is unfair, but it is balanced with the weakness of most of the hellburst's enemies
• The boss will always spawn from right below the player, which could tend to surprise a lot of people.
• Naturally spawned lava slimes do not count towards the servant count.
___________________________________________________________________

Tips:

Spears and other melee weapons are very good choices to use as spears pierce multiple segments.
• The execution is a very powerful weapon against WoC as it is a large spear that also comes with a bonus of firing projectiles.
• Phase 2 is very easy to dismiss, as the boss always runs parallel to the player, allowing for some easy hits.
• The boss will break a lot of tiles, ranging from anything under a pickaxe power of 100
• All yoyos could be seen as effective, most notably the Terrarian, due to it's wide projectiles (more notably with a yoyo bag)
• Outrunning the boss is a bad idea, as it will keep up with the player's speed very quickly.
• Running into an ocean will easily ‘Cheese’ the boss in some circumstances
• The Stardust Dragon is really effective when it comes to the fight.
___________________________________________________________________

Trivia:

• The Worm was originally going to be called the underworm, but the name was scrapped.
• It is one of the few flying worm lookalikes.
• The boss does not have a mage phase, despite it having the other main classes.
• When it dies, the WoC bursts apart, bearing a rooked skeleton underneath.
• Wearing the “Toy Of Galaxies” and being named “Shadow” after defeating this boss will make it automatically spawn in it's final phase with max life

I'm not sure the angler would ever even acknowledge the WoC as at the sight of water, the worm usually stays away. Also, WoC is way too big to be a fish.

I'll change it with something else then.

Also, you can't summon it at the surface, but it spawns there during its event.

I know I haven't commented on this for a long time, but I'd like to make a change to WoC : When manually summoned ones enter water, they become invulnerable and constantly teleport to the player, immediately killing them. Note that this does not count for the event.
