Merge "Hong Kong" "Macao" "Taiwan" into China

I recently found a piece of news saying that China is permanently banning Scratch because of Hong Kong issues.
Could you make these changes so “Hong Kong” users, and so on, are shown as “Chinese” users?

This is a very political issue. Doing so may cause disruption in the Scratch Hong Kong community.

I haven't heard of any news about this, but the ST probably have a solution for this.

What I mean is, as this is a political issue, some Scratch users living in Hong Kong may not be comfortable with this change. I haven't been able to find anything about this supposed ban, but if this is true, I'm sure the Scratch Team are working on it.

Personally, I would be offended at Scratch considering Taiwan as a part of China.
Keep in mind that Scratch has a very diverse group of people. “Playing around” with that diversity could cause quite a bit of unrest among the community and I don't think the Scratch Team would like to deal with that.

Could you cite the source for me please? I'd like to take a look at it.

No Support. If you want to merge, first do it on Olympic games.

It seems that China has banned almost all sites that doesn't allow you to speak Chinese on,

I'd only agree with changing the “country” dropdown in the account creation process to “region” (especially not only Chinese-not-Chinese status-disputed regions are in that dropdown). I don't see how the news you found (and which I have not been able to find) is related to the topic, however. Also, your topic title is misleading - it looks like you're asking the Scratch Team to singlehandedly make the necessary political changes to merge Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan into China! Better would be to explicitly say that you're talking about the dropdown in account creation.

“disruption in the Scratch Hong Kong community” is an understatement.

And personally, I'd be offended the same way for Hong Kong, but that's personal and apart from this discussion.

Yes, please!

Why do you say that only for Taiwan?

Interesting distinction.

What? So China disagrees with Scratch considering Hong Kong separate? That does not feel right.

I don't want to go over to the political side of things, but I do not support. Looking at these posts, I agree that this could create problems in Scratch and also in real life (most of the rejected suggestions are there due to drama issues, so uhh)…

It's true, China do not consider Hong Kong seperate, while Hong Kong considers itself seperate - this is called a conflict.

Please don't believe every rumor you hear. We feel that individuals are far better at identifying what country they belong to than Scratch is. If a person in Hong Kong feels that their country is Hong Kong, they can choose it. If they feel that the correct country they belong to is China, they are welcome to select it as well. We do not want to remove options for people to identify what country they feel best describes their country.
