Gender?

Bit of a touchy subject, but isn't it awkward when you're not sure what gender another Scratcher is? The her/his thing(from 1.4) is also awkward. Anything on this? The solution probably shouldn't be really IN YOUR FACE!!! either.

Perhaps just have it refer to people as him or her in the messages, like for instance, “Failord added you to his friends list.” The current system is now following, and messages have been reworded to avoid this, but you get the idea.

By the way, it's not like I'm trying to lead a movement here. I'm just bringing it up for dicussion; the ST doesn't really need to do anything about this, but again, as the subject says, not knowing can be awkward.

Thanks for the ride, Scratch Team and community! Unfortunately, the time has come for me to move on from Scratch, so I'll no longer be using the forums. Thanks again, and farewell!

Gender?

For some users, it would be pretty awkward to publicly post a gender for others to see.

Sadly, my forum signature was eaten by an evil kumquat.

Maybe we need to invent a new pronoun that means Srcatcher :3

Instead of he or she, maybe we have..scre, or screr.
Screr made a very cool project

On a serious note, on the side border by our profile we have the option to provide non personal information (e.g., gender, timezone, etc.). Just a thought, tho it would have to be somewhat restricted.

Just wonderin'…Why does ST need to know gender? In 1.4, if you want to sign up, you should tell your gender. What is use of this? Or does gender is an information like birth date to make sure we're the owner?

Yeah, I'm not sure either. I mean, it STILL says her/his in the messages even after you gave the bit of information…

For statistical purposes. It's helpful for us to see how many boys and how many girls are using Scratch.

I don't see the harm in making the option to display your gender in your profile, at least.

I was just reading and was going to suggest that until I read that.

Support that.

I've been listening to…
Ogre Battle // Queen // Queen II // Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, Progressive Metal
Orion // Metallica // Master of Puppets // Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Instrumental
Damage Inc. // Metallica// Master of Puppets // Thrash Metal, Heavy Metal
Snow (Hey Oh) // Red Hot Chilli Peppers // Snow (Hey Oh) // Soft Rock, Acoustic
Who Wants To Live Forever // Queen // A Kind of Magic // Power Ballad, Soft Rock
I suggest you listen to…
For a influential playlist: Damage Inc and Orion. Both of these songs are part of the album that revolutionized heavy and thrash metal forever.

Oh, this would definitely be a violation of COPPA, which while it doesn't apply to us as a non-profit, is still a kind of industry standard, so we respect it as such.

You'll never get me, COPPA! Ha ha, JK. On a serious note, I was only throwing an idea out there. It's not like I'm leading a movement or anything, I just felt like this should get discussed.
