Bring back fonts from Scratch 1.0-1.4

I really like the fonts Scratch had from 1.0-1.4; can you (@Scratchteam) please bring them back as typable fonts alongside the current fonts?

We can't bring fonts back, because it is rejected:

2.3 Set the editor to look like older versions of Scratch
Some users prefer the look and feel of the Scratch 2.0 editor, and have suggested that the editor look like Scratch 2.0, but still run off of HTML5 like Scratch 3.0 does. However, this would be more complicated for educational and documentation purposes. It could be confusing if someone is trying to learn Scratch from someone who is using a completely different layout of the editor than them.

In addition, the Scratch Team changed the design for a reason: to make it easier, more intuitive, and friendlier for newcomers to use. If you dislike the Scratch 3.0 editor, you can still download the Scratch 1.4 or Scratch 2.0 offline editors; for more information, see #2.4 on this list.

However, the Scratch Team is still considering adding options to change the block size inside the editor, an option to switch the side of the screen the stage is on, and an option for a dark mode interface. It may be some time, though, before these ideas are implemented; please be patient.

Eh, that's not exactly the same thing. That rejected suggestion is more for setting the entire interface to look like 1.4 or 2.0. Individual features in those editors that are not present in 3.0 might still make a return.

In this case, what is being suggested is more fonts in the paint editor (right?). It is my understanding that we got rid of those because some devices could not handle certain fonts like that, especially with the release of 2.0. I'm not entirely sure if we're opposed to bringing them back, though.

1. Correct! 2. Oh, ok. I still hope they can come back, though. (I probably shouldn't get my hopes up, though. )

Maybe you could add in just some special fonts example: VCR OSD MONO so that I don't have to copy font text images from font sources and a label that says to download the Scratch Font Pack before clicking the green flag

The problem with that is that Scratch 1.x had no fonts - instead, it used the fonts that were on the user's computer.

Yeah, that wouldn't be very easy to have to license all those fonts for (lol)
I think a better suggestion in this case would be to ask for some Scratch 2 fonts, although there's definitely a topic already in Suggestions for that.

Plus, Scratch 1.0 uses the font your device uses.

Especially if you're just going to quote the OP and post something that someone else already said

Anyway, I think that this is physically impossible in a browser application, and even if they did find a way to add this then people would have to install fonts for projects which use them to work.

There are way too many fonts in 1.0.
So this would take a really long time.

By the way 1.x actually had no fonts as people above said.
It uses fonts on the user's computer.

Did some research and I can confirm that there's no way to use Javascript to grab someone's user fonts. However, you could in Flash, so user fonts could've been something to suggest back when Scratch 2 was around.

Are you sure that JS doesn't have some kind of “is font installed?” function? I'm too lazy to check. You could theoretically create a very inefficient brute force method to determine which fonts a browser can use if something like that exists. It would be nowhere near practical enough to use in a real program, but it might technically work

Yeah, no. It can't look for that. You can figure out some of the users locally installed fonts by calculating the difference in length between the default font and the target font, but that sounds really janky

It can be done!

Semi-support, I'm down for more fonts but I'm worried about legal issues (some fonts are copyrighted) but if the fonts Scratch used for 1.0-1.4 are free to use, then I'm totally fine with that.

No support, Steve0Greatness said there were a bunch of fonts there, which makes the loading time more slow.

Scratch 1.x just used whichever fonts were installed on your computer, so “getting the list of 1.x fonts” is impossible.

How would this work?
1.x just used the fonts on your computer. which would cause issues
For example: Say someone (a Mac user) wanted to use Helvetica. However, Helvetica does not come with Windows, so it would use the default font, causing issues.
