Text To Speech Won’t Properly Pronounce Words Like “AAAA”

My browser / operating system: IPad iOS 12.1.4, Safari 12.0, No Flash version detected

I’m not sure if this belongs in bugs and glitches or suggestions as it’s a bit of both.

When using TTS, if I write something like “AAAAAAAAAAAA” it only says “A”. I’m not sure if this is intended or not, but it can cause some errors with pronunciations or if we are making a silly animation we might want to say “AAAAAHHHHH” versus just “A”.

Once I tried writing “A A A A A” instead, but it just pronounced just “A” multiple times.

Again I’m not sure if this is a bug or if it was intended, but I figured I should point this out. It’s super irritating at times.
(ST feel free to move this to suggestion if it works better there, I wasn’t sure where to put it.)

Can someone verify whose system TTS uses?

This is due to the way most text to speech systems interpret letters and is intended.

On other TTS I’ve used (such as fromtexttospeech) it works fine

That’s not exactly what I’m saying though, any word with multiple vowels like that only pronounce it as one “a”. And I might want to have someone say “AAAAAAAH!” versus just “AH”

I would assume that Scratch is using Amazon Polly (or something along those lines) in which case it likely has no control over how the text it passes to the TextToSpeech API is vocalised.

Okay? Not sure how that's relavant - it just means that TTS system has a different way of doing things.

It probably is Amazon Polly, since when you go to add a Speech extension on the editor, it says “Collaboration with Amazon Web Services”
