You reply by clicking the quote button at the bottom of the post (next to the report button) and if you wanted to test stuff out, then just make a new post anywhere, put what you want to test in it and then instead of clicking submit, click the green check mark above the text box for making a post. This will open a small area underneath it where you can preview your post.

Absolute value is a numbers distance from 0 so it'll be positive. So, anything that is negative turns positive and numbers that are positive, stay positive. For example, -5 turns into 5 and 5 stays 5.
