About the project

This is my take on a Scratch game in the style of Guitar Hero or Piano Tiles. The game is packed full of different songs to play. Amass points for hitting the correct notes - the better timed the note, the higher the points. Note streaks unlock bonus multipliers. All song high scores are stored in the cloud so every player can compete to get the best scores!

The project was written using my MIDI Toolkit project to play all the music using note blocks.

Please feel free to add comments, questions or suggestions to this thread. You can also use it as a place to store your save-codes. Note that save-codes are encrypted to the player's username so you can't use other people's save-codes!

I have a question, when I go onto the project, everyones high score is so Big and when I try and get everything right, it'd not even close to their highscore. How can this be?

The game is quite hard when it comes to four hands and three hands, some hands (I am sure) are a but un coordinated, and so it's hard to get through each of the levels, sure some can get through them, but it can get a bit frustrating after two days of trying to not beat the level yet. Will you be able to make any of the levels easier? If I sound rude, I am not intending in any way to be so.

I'm going to check through some of the tracks when I have time to ensure they're more fun than frustrating. I might replace the 4 column levels with 3 columns and the 5 column levels with 4 columns. Part of it will be to not miss a single note so that you get to the maximum score multiplier as quickly as possible and to keep it there throughout the song. The rest of it will be down to note accuracy. Obviously you don't have to hit every note exactly at the right moment in time… but you score more points if you do. This can make a big difference if it's the first note in a string of notes (where you hold the key down) as every note will trigger the same score!

Don't worry - it didn't sounds rude at all. I'm aiming to make the bottom two rows easier in general - most of them, at least. It's just a case of when I'll have time to work through them and do that. It's quite a time consuming process.

Hmm mixed feelings about that. I don't find four columns too bad, you just have to train your fingers, like playing the piano!

I've managed to complete four of the 5 column songs.

In retrospect I agree with you so I've changed it back. I had a quick go at some of the five column songs and found them to be delightfully challenging. I then had a go at Moves Like Jagger… ouch! It's pretty easy on four columns and it's not supposed to be easy on the hardest level but it does, indeed, seem impossible with five columns. I don't think I'll be able to find tracks in that MIDI file that work well without keeping the general underlying melody (which is the nightmare to match with five columns). I'll have a look later and see if it's possible. Otherwise I might replace the song.

Edit: there was no way to make that song playable but I think you're going to like the replacement…

Gradually running through the game in a non-developer game mode to see if everything's doable or if any other tracks need changing (since the lamentable Moves Like Jagger episode)
