The “when I receive” block uses a non-insertable dropdown, so the first one can probably stay as it is now.

That's actually a good point. I had assumed that the non-insertable dropdown was due to some limitation with how sprites receive messages, but then I realized that all of the hat blocks are like this.

For example, the “when key pressed” block in Events has a non-insertable dropdown, but the “key pressed?” block in Sensing is insertable.

I would imagine this is to avoid any issues that could arise if the run condition for a hat block were to suddenly change… and with that said, since “message received?” is not a hat block, I suppose an insertable dropdown would work fine.

It was frequently misquoted to claim that you can use them in any context, in reality, some moderators might not allow them at all.
