EV3 extension: color sensor not supported?

Hi all,

does anybody know, if the Color sensor is supported in the current ev3 extension in Scratch 3?
I only see the value for brightness, however nor for color.

Did I miss something?

EV3 extension: color sensor not supported?

Hi Eberhard,

Welcome, and thanks for writing! You're right, only the brightness value is reported from the sensor. Generally the LEGO extensions only feature a single mode from a sensor, to keep the extensions simple.

Thanks,
Kevin

I agree that an extension should be simple to use. However, it can be simple while offering the functionality EV3 users expect. Below some things I noticed:

Color sensor:
- At this moment it is impossible to sense colors
- Currently it can only detect “brightness”
- Expected is: Color, Light, Ambient Light, RGB

Motors:
- Motors can currently only spin for a given time duration (one seconds this way or that way)
- Missing is: amount of rotations (not time, but amount of motor rotations) and percentage of power

Scratch doesn't have enough blocks to do more sophisticated programs. If you have a computer it's best to use that to program your EV3 with. Here is a link to a website where you can download the LEGO EV3 Classroom app that uses the drag and drop blocks like Scratch but with way more blocks:
