"Front Page Curator Applications" studio FAQ

Hi there! Recently, after an agreement with other curators of this studio, we decided to make a FAQ containing answers to some questions that are often asked. So that you don't have to search for your question by looking at every single one of them, you can search for your question with Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F) if you need to.
Note to other curators of this studio: If you can improve the answers (providing links, more information, correcting typos, reformulate sentences, etc.), please do! The answers should also be understandable by anyone and perfectly clear - we need to make sure that there is no ambiguity.
#1 - What is a Front Page Curator?
A Front Page Curator (often known as “FPC”) is a person whose job is for one week to display projects on the front page. The FPC is the person in “projects curated by ___”. The 5 projects displayed under that section are the 5 most recent favorites of the current FPC, thus FPCs favorite their projects in order for them to be curated. But before getting the role, you must first apply. You can find the instructions project here. For further information, you can see this article.
#2 - What is a sample studio?
A sample studio is a studio containing 5 to 7 examples of projects you would curate if you were FPC. You must include your application in your sample studio and provide a link to your sample studio in your application's “Notes and Credits” section. Please note that the projects you would curate can't be made by you. You're not obliged to curate those projects if you get accepted, they're just examples!
#3 - What do I need to include in my application?
There are two questions that you must answer in your application:Then, you can also include why you want to become FPC, your schedule (how many projects you'd curate), and your requirements (limits that you determine in order to not curate projects that are already famous). Those are optional, but increase your chances.
- Which types of projects do you like?
- Which types of projects would you curate?
There are no restrictions on how to make your application, so be unique!
#4 - How do I know if I'm accepted?
If you're accepted, you will receive a comment from the Scratch Team asking you if you are still interested in becoming FPC. If so, read the curator orientation to know what's next, and have fun! :D
However, you won't get notified if you don't get accepted.
#5 - Am I allowed to re-apply?
Yes, you are allowed to re-apply if you don't get accepted within 3 months. Try to make your new application different and better!
#6 - Can I curate a project without asking?
There aren't any rules on that, but it is definitely better to ask the creator's permission first.
#7 - When does the Scratch Team pick new curators?
New FPCs are chosen once a week, and usually on Mondays.
#8 - How can I get curated?
If instead you were wondering how to get curated, glad that you ask! You should ask a future FPC to curate your project. However, don't ask directly on their profile, look for a studio or forum post where you can suggest projects. Also, make sure that they still have slots remaining and that your project meets their criteria. Furthermore, keep in mind that it is not guaranteed that your project gets curated.
#9 - Do I have to curate 35 projects?
No, it's totally up to you to decide how many projects to curate! However, the Scratch Team prefers that you curate at least 7 projects throughout your shift.
#10 - For how long should you have been on Scratch before applying?
In order to apply, you must have the Scratcher status. You can find out how to get rid of the “New Scratcher” status here.

This is probably a better fit for the “Show and Tell” section.
Also for #9 you may want to add that the Scratch Team prefers that you curate at least 7 projects throughout your shift.

Great! Maybe you should also mention in #4 that you won't get a notification from the Scratch Team if you aren't accepted - only if you have (many have asked this before).

New curators are now chosen on Wednesdays:
Aug. 28, 2023 update:
We've made a shift to the start day/time for FPC shifts. Shifts will now start on Wednesdays at 12pm (eastern time) rather than Monday at 5pm. That means shifts will run from Wednesday to Wednesday rather than Monday to Monday. Everything else about FPC program will remain the same and will run as normal. The only change is the start day/time. This change will officially begin on Wednesday, September 6th!
