I'm trying to run my Lego WeDo motor, but it doesn't work at all. It works properly from Scratch 1.4. Do I have to do something special to connect the motor with the Scrath 2.0?
Thanks a lot.
Artur.

Hiya and welcome!
Unfortunately, WeDo support is rather tricky in 2.0. Since 2.0 runs in the browser, we need to develop a helper application that you install on your computer, to let Scratch 2.0 talk to your WeDo hardware. That's not done yet, and may only get done after the release (but hopefully soon after). So for now, WeDo won't work with Scratch 2.0.

So, when this application has been done, will it be a Linux version or it will be only for Windows? I work at Department of Education of Catalonia, and we try to promote the use of Linux in our schools. Recently we achieved to run WeDo in Scratch for Linux, and we'd like to continue this way.
Thank you again.
Artur.

Since it Scratch 2.0 will run on Flash, expect it to work with Linux with Flash installed.

Hardmath123I hope so, but if I have to install something in my computer, I'm not sure that Linux will be as important as Windows

Our plan is to support Windows, Mac, and Linux for the WeDo extension. However, the development priority will likely be placed on the first two OSes. JohnM might have a better sense of how hard it will be to make the WeDo communicator for Linux. I'll ping him about this….

We're already 90% done with the Linux code to support the WeDo on Scratch 2.0. However, the WeDo blocks currently do not work on *any* platform in Scratch 2.0. Support for the WeDo and Scratch Sensor Board will require a “helper app” so that Flash running in the browser can connect to the hardware, and we haven't yet worked out how to distribute and install helper apps on any platform. In fact, the WeDo and Sensor Board extensions may not be ready at Scratch 2.0 launch, although they should be ready within a few months after the launch.
You're right, some people with Windows may have trouble getting the IT folks to install the helper apps. But there's no way around it; you simply can't access the hardware from inside a browser (from either Flash or JavaScript).

LightninWhy Linux is always the last option…? It has an increasing number of users…

johnmWe'll be waiting for this second launch as interested as in the first one.

Thank you very much again for your answers.

Oh I know! (I've been running Ubuntu / Debian since 2005) And I'm happy about that trend! But we have a long way to go yet.
But don't worry, I'm constantly bugging people around here about supporting Linux. I just wish Adobe had the same commitment.

Hi,
Is there any chance the helper app will be ready in the next couple of weeks?
I am starting soon a scratch+WeDo project with kids, and would like very much to start it with 2.0+WeDo.
Is there a possibility to get the helper app (for windows) before the formal distribution?
Thanks
Yuval

Will the helper app be open source?
