All keys on keyboard

savaka wrote:

I think you should be able to do any key you want on the keyboard for the key press block. I know Flash can do this so it is possible. Maybe you could click on the field in the key press block and instead of a drop down menu it says “Press the key you want” and then you press it and it goes in the block.

This sounds like a good idea, I'm assuming you have young or new scratchers in mind. Support

dracae wrote:

The first one can be abused, and the second one is not very necessary.

Regarding the first suggestion - Letting a project have control over ANY key pressed is possibly abusable. Either way, you can hack it in if you REALLY want it…

As for the second suggestion, what's so hard about clicking the check button or pressing enter?
Also, you can program your own answering script if you REALLY wish, and I'm sure there are alreadu projects out there with that implemented.

So sorry, but no support.

You're point isn't well stated. This topic is directed at people who don't know how to hack. Scratch is meant to be easy for anyone to learn, so they should add this feature. And ABUSED. Seriously, come on. Scratch is always being updated, Flash is always being updated. The Scratch team will come up with a patch before adding this feature if they do so. If even the ABUSED part is a big deal. I don't get why you wouldn't support it.

I enjoy coding, writing electronic music, building computers and servers, and playing the piano. I am a big fan of F-777's music, you should really check it out.

I have written a few semi-common pieces of code that are used in scratch projects, like scratchapi.

I'm kind of lonely, I'd like a bit of attention, if that's possible.

You're right Ithink, but how could griffpatch make a hack then?

I don't spport people who breake Scratch bounderys by hacking to get features thay need. Scratch was ment to be easy to learn.
It IS easy to learn! And people can get more useful tools thanks to griffpatch! Really, I'm surprised nobody thought of this during 1.4

It was meant to be a bad thing.
The thing is that if you get something from hacking, you have an adventage over most others, and hacking is different from Scratch so not many people know how to hack. People have to use what thay get, not from people that has more then others then taking from it. I do NOT support hacked games for Scratch and never will.
He didn't actually ‘hack’ it. But either way, it seems like your whole philosophy is anti-remixing. And no, Griff has no advantage over others. Someone could just open up his project and take a copy of the block if they liked. Such is the nature of Scratch.

Anyway, Griff simply worked around the editor's constraints while not breaking his code by downloading the .sb2, renaming it to a .zip, then extracting and opening the .json and tweaking things. I know this because I've done it a lot for simple things like dropdowns on custom blocks.

Got here from a dupe and yes, I support. Just don't like the idea of ignoring ‘hacks’ as they're easy to do - anyone who can extract .zip's (If you've got WinZip, 7-Zip, or so on, you can) can do it - it's as simple as opening a .json in a text editor and changing a few lines.

The “don't just say support” rule has only been around for about half a year, so there's no point picking on 3-year-old posts about it.

Support for more keys if I haven't already, but it should be limited to keys that are found on most keyboards.

In 1.4 Scratch had it's own file format that couldn't be hacked
It could be hacked - remember shift-click-R?

I think that a few more keys should be added (like the Enter or [ keys) but not every single one. Some computers don't have every key (for instance, some chrome books don't have caps lock) and this would limit some people from using certain projects.
<key [caps lockv] pressed?>
<key [FNv] pressed?>
<key [PG UP] pressed?>

Your spelling bro

Yes, Scratch is meant to be easy to learn, however once people get to know it, it becomes, frankly, too easy. These “ATS” Advanced Topic Scratchers like to mod scratch or find these cool little tricks. People who are still learning might not be attracted to these things, but others certainly are.

AFAIK computers can't detect the Fn key at all, it is only used by the keyboard.

Also I do not support the windows key or menu key

I support this idea. Also, you should be able to get to a key quickly rather than having to scroll through a huge list.

I got a better idea, when you select what key you want, you just type it in and not use the list.
I think that the dropdown list would still be important for
<key [any v] pressed?>
, but I'd support being able to insert a join block like
<key (join [\] []) pressed?>
to detect if the \ key was pressed, etc….

Please read my signature! It might explain some lingo that I used in my post or comment. However, not all of it shows, so you have to highlight the entire bottom of the post, from “Please read my signature!” to where it says report, and copy and paste in into a new sheet or tab or whatever.
I can't decide my signature between:
1. I'm a grammar stickler, and my pet peeve is when people use good as an adverb.
2. I have lots of [creativity]original ideas[/creativity]. [creativity]This[/creativity] is one of those ideas.
3. If I used this symbol: ⸮ in my comment, please look it up before doing anything else.
4. {Minot, North Dakota/Donald Trump parodies} “WE'RE GONNA BUILD A DAM AND MAKE CANADA PAY FOR IT!” “When Canada sends its water, they’re not sending their best drinking water…They’re bringing sleet. They’re bringing floods. The water's toxic.” (It's just a joke that I came up with.)
5. One should make his/her signature text small; that way (s)he can cram more text into the signature.
6. New [scratchblocks] idea each week! (Thanks to Bright-Idea (Read her signature.) for inspiration/the general idea.) Here's the archive:

I used to be active on the forums, but I have mostly moved past Scratch. I still do check my Scratch messages, so if you'd like to talk to me, just pop a comment on my profile. My main project on Scratch was Cookie Clicker, but I've also recently made a project called Snake Snake, a game based off of Snake, but there are two snakes, and you can play either singleplayer or multiplayer.
