Engrish

I'll bet none of you know what Engrish is. Engrish is a type of English, except it doesn't make any sense. All you do is go to a translator (like the one on the dashboard for Macs), do English to Japanese, type in whatever you want, translate it, then switch it around, and it won't make any sense. If you kept switching it, it'll sometimes change, too, and become even more weirder! Here's an example:

Original:
Do you wanna build a snowman? Come on let's go and play. I never see you anymore, come out the door, it's like you've gone away! We used to be best buddies. But now we're not. I wish you would tell me why! Do you wanna build a snowman? It doesn't have to be a snowman! Ok bye.

Engrish:
Do you want to build a snowman? Let's go play Come on. I seem to have done you away and out the door, you do not get to see you anymore! We used to be best buddies. However, we're not now. I hope that you say to me why! Do you want to build a snowman? You do not have to be a snowman it. Go away Anna! OK bye.

So you guys try it out! Then post it on here. I want to see what weird things will come up!

I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

I was an adventure like you, but I took an arrow to the knee and then

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to emit a beacon of light from my seeing orbs.

Excerpt from Frozen's “Let It Go” in Engrish.

Original:

Let it go, let it go
And I'll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
That perfect girl is gone
Here I stand in the light of day
Let the storm rage on!
The cold never bothered me anyway

Engrish:

The Let it go, let it go
And I will rise as dawn
The Let it go, let it go
That perfect girl is gone
I stand in the light of day here
Let's furious storm!
Cold is that you do not care about me anyway

Have a cute, curled up Peridot.

Yes, that is true. Engrish I guess can be for other languages, too. But I think it works best with Japanese.

And it can be somewhat offensive to speakers of those languages…

It's basically playing with the fact that the grammatical structure of languages varies and you can't really directly translate one language to another well, mostly with European to Asian languages or vice versa.

I don't think mocking incorrect translations made by non-English speakers is okay. Thread closed.

Sadly, my forum signature was eaten by an evil kumquat.
