I will avoid using trademarks on Scratch as best as I can.

Don't use ™ or ® unless you actually contacted the US Patent office and patented the thing you put ® or ™ behind.
You don't have to have filed for ™ to use it

You just have to avoid saying that you registered it if you haven't.

There's a scratchblock on the post editor. when you click it, you can use the plugin to use blocks. to make custom one you just put a phrase or word in it like this:
when green flag clicked
forever
Use Windows
end
or something. You could look inside by quoting this if you need help.
You might also notice those are the same Scratchblocks I used in my signature.

This has prompted another question…

Given the speed at which iOS and Android Apps can ramp up volume of users when they “go viral” is there anything to stop App developers scouring Scratch studios for ideas and then building an App that they commercialise either by selling it or through in-App advertising? For most users I'm sure it would be a huge compliment to see their idea as an iPad App, but it would be a bit much if someone else made money off that and no benefit came back to the Scratch community. Has it ever happened to anyone's knowledge?
Wow, true. That could be bad. I don't think it's happened, but I could be wrong.

I don't think changing the name actually didn't change much, it's still the second result when you type
“Animation Hall of Fame” into Google search

https://www.google.com/search?q=Animation+Hall+of+Fame&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=rcs

this is absolutely disgusting that companies would engage in such behavior towards this site. it's borderline predatory behavior/bullying, since there's no obvious profit or harm. they just want to exert power over the users.

we should have some sort of peaceful protest like we did with sopa.

Okay, I know people think this is stupid, but honestly, you SHOULD do it. It can lead to lots of horrible stuff.

when green flag clicked
if <[ v] you don't [do something]> then(go [to] [jail])

end

XD I'm kidding about the jail thing, but it's true. If nobody does anything, Scratch may be deleted… .FOR EVA.

That's not fair! Companys shouldn't be picking on innocent kids.

I totally agree with the trademarks even though I try not to use them whenever I can because it's like a tattoo, if you get into trouble with the authority they can pin you to a certain area from eyewitnesses and other things because of that tattoo. It is also hard to stop using a trademark.

True. If someone clueless about trademarks made an OS on Scratch and called it Windows, then they get a trademark claim for it not knowing that it was an actual OS, then this happens… and yes I used Windows as an example because I'm some random artist/animator who likes Windows

The thing is, kids, which predominantly make up the Scratch website, do not and will not take the time to search up a trademark.
The teacher says “ Make sure you pay attention to trademarks, kids!” and no one is even listening.

Or, if a kid who knows nothing about the company breaks the trademark law, say someone in the Amazon who doesn't know about Nintendo but makes up a game called Nintendo randomly and then it gets out of the rainforest and into the U.S., Nintendo couldn't really sue him because he didn't know about the original Nintendo.

it not fair because if you are a little kid and don't know a trademark is.
