Hi guys, ST. I'm sure that most of us are aware of the bug ‘Black Screen’. This is where the screen will go black and it both lags the game and wrecks it. Here's a project which involves the problem: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/11880327/ The screen goes black in layers, so some things show while others don't.
Please fix it!

I am unaware of the Black Screen bug. I played your game and didn't experience it. Can you describe how to cause this in your game?

It appears certain browsers are having issues with “effect” blocks. What browser and operating system are you using?

We re having the same problem in our lab. About 5 of the computers are getting the black screen. We are running firefox and safari on macs.

This bug has really completely ruined some of my freinds projects, I really want to know how to fix this bug

I Just had this problem here: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/19028295/ I was using chrome on a chromebook.

I figured out a temporary solution, well sort off. Avoid using the effect blocks. IF you get the bug then click File>Save as a copy. The copy won't have the glitch.

Thanks again for reporting this bug. Google Chromebooks are having this error with all “effect” blocks. We just fixed the error on Chromebooks and will rollout the update soon (likely later today). If you're not using a Google Chromebook, what operating system and version of Flash are you running?

Also, a temporary fix is click "Cmd + M“ or ”Alt + M" when viewing the project. Please know your project isn't damaged and you not have lost any data! It's just the player acting up :]

I use a Mac and the black screen bug is still there on Safari. Please help!

On a regular hp computer with firefox, though, it works perfectly fine. The project is unshared now though.

I get it for chrome… Mine is wierd when i click something sometimes i see a black screen for like 5 seconds and then i lag A LOT. This just started happening recently.

Can you give us some more detail about your system? Click the globe icon when you reply, and that'll put some info into your post.

Also, we think we've isolated an issue that happens with certain graphics cards, and are working on a fix.

We found an issue with some older Mac laptops (mostly from 2010/2011) that have a certain video card. Those computers see a black background and black around sprites. Next week we'll release the fix (already created but needs testing).

Oh! I've been wondering why others haven't been screaming about that! (But I also never saw it my older Macs, so left it…)

Great to know you're onto it - been really bugging me for a while when using beta player on my 2011 MB Air.
(That's my ‘new’ Mac -my main one before was a 2007 Mac Mini, which tends to show projects looking as expected, albeit struggling with anything reasonably intensive - and it still frequently throws up those red undefined corrupted blocks when I load up my 3D projects, which is why I had to stop using it to edit them).

EDIT: BTW, if you want a project to really test sprite-rendering with the ex-beta player, you can try it on this: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/11397100 -It looks really bad on my MB Air at the mo!
I've taken non-ghost effects out of the original version of it, so that works fine since it's not using the ex-beta player: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/10143939

I use chrome on a macbook air. It's a older model too.

we are working on HP computers with explorer browser and we are having the black background issues

here is the information of this computer: My browser / operating system: ChromeOS 5116.113.0, Chrome 33.0.1750.149, Flash 12.0 (release 0) this ones having the problem

I'm using a 2011 Macbook Pro and am getting the glitch. I've tried all of my different browsers (chrome, firefox, and safari) and I get the glitch and all three. I've tried using Cmd + M like stated above, but it didn't seem to do anything. When do you think you guys (the scratch team) will fix this bug for 2010-2011 Macs? It's really prohibiting me from working on my project.
