If you are found spamming comments on several projects advertising. What are the consequences? (answered)

And also what type of spam/advertisement would result in a warning/ban? I just want to know as I have a very vague idea about how this works. And I've seen lots of people do it.
What type of spam that would be so bad that someone would have a lengthy ban, or Ip ban, If you get one?

If you don't understand, tell me what bit of this post you don't understand.

Since spam is quite a minor offence (unless it's malicious), you'd likely get an alert. If you continued to spam past this then you might get banned and potentially permanently banned if you took it even further.

Depends on what you mean by “advertising”. Commercial advertising, especially if it's repeated, would probably result in a ban or, if it's severe, account deletion.

However, I'm pretty sure you mean "advertising your own Scratch projects“. In that case, the consequences most likely wouldn't be that severe, especially if it's an isolated incident that only happens once on any given project - it would probably be limited to other users telling you not to advertise, or at most, a minor alert. However, if the advertisement is spammed repeatedly on the same project or contains something more serious, like a threat (e.g. ”CHECK OUT ME PROJEKT OR ELES IM GONNA HAKC U!!!!11!1!11!!!" or something like that), the punishment might involve a ban.

It depends on the spam/advertising. A lot of spam/advertising is often done by younger people and/or people who don't know better and therefore would probably just require a warning at most.
If the spamming is obviously intentional, such as commercial spam/spamming done by bots, or if the user continually spams/advertises (especially if the user is saying stuff like “Join my studio or I'll kill you!”), they could possibly get banned.
If the user has already gotten banned for spamming and is working around it with a new account and/or the spamming is done by a bot program, there's a chance that the user could get IP banned.

Thanks for your wonderful answers! I know this took nearly a day for me to respond but I posted this at night (In my timezone). I now acknowledge that it only becomes a big issue if it's commercial advertising. Most advertising such as advertising projects/studios only gets minor punishments unless they contain threats.

Interesting how you say commercials, I've seen a few bots on the forums roughly a year ago do this maybe a few times a week. And there was once a time where people were constantly advertising mcdonalds (this is not an ad pls don't block me) but they were just joking around.

If it's obviously joking and the brand is an innocuous one that everyone knows about (like the McDonalds thing you referred to) then it's most likely fine.

However, if it's done maliciously (like linking to a virus or a scam, for example) or spammed repeatedly, then it's a serious offense that warrants immediate action and severe consequences from the Scratch Team.
