Question: Will projects made in alpha be compatible with the final release of 2.0?
^^^^^
I'd like to start working on a big project, but if there's even the slightest chance of incompatibility with the final version of 2.0, I don't want to risk doing a lot of work for nothing.
Can you confirm compatibility at this time, or are you still unsure?

Still definitely a chance, so we won't promise. But as time goes on, I think the chance of losing compatibility decreases.
I'd say work on it, but keep downloading a copy now and again. If in the worst case scenario you do have to redo it in the release version, you can still look at the old Json to figure out what you did.

We're not planning to change the project format. It's possible certain blocks or features won't make it into the release version (e.g. the backdrop scrolling feature that we tried for a while, then removed). So you might need to change some scripts if the blocks change between now and the release. But, as Lightnin says, if you stash a copy of your project on your own disk it's almost certain that you'll be able to open it and keep working on it after Scratch 2.0 is released.
Personally, I think it would be great to have some big projects available soon after Scratch 2.0 is launched, and it would also be great testing to have you working on a big project. But since this still is alpha, keep lots of backups on your own computer as you go so you can go back to old versions if necessary.
