The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
Three rings for the Elven-kings underneath the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for mortal men doomed to die,
And one for the Dark Lord on his dark throne,
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie,
One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them,
One Rings to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them;
In the land of Mordor, where the Shadows lie.

I can't decide what my favorite part is, but Peregrin Took is my favorite, followed by all the other hobbits in no particular order. And ‘the other hobbits’ includes Gollum.

Contrary to most critical views, I enjoyed watching the Hobbit films. It was great to watch another trilogy set in Middle Earth.
Also, I have read and watched the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings books and films.

Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy is absolutely incredible and definitely the best thing to come out of big budget Hollywood. Fellowship of The Ring is especially perfect and one of the most re-watchable movies of all time. They're absolute miracles of filmmaking.
Not very big on The Hobbit trilogy. The first two films are just alright, but they suffer from padding, poor CGI and a complete lack of passion. Jackson was more or less obligated to make these rather than wanting to, and it really shows. I do think there's some really great individual scenes in there, though. Battle of The Five Armies, however, is one of the absolute worst movies I have ever seen. It's just a terrible feature length fight scene that stops being fun about half an hour in.

Sure, they added a lot of stuff that wasn't in the book, but they kept pretty much everything that was in the book. That's why I think they are good adaptations. I would have watched six Lord of the Rings movies, even if they added stuff as long as I could get to see Tom Bombadil, The Conspiracy Unmasked and The Scouring of the Shire. Also, the stuff that they added wasn't really that bad.

As for the CGI, I don't see anyone complaining about Avatar. The point of that movie was just CGI. It didn't have any plot. The Hobbit movies, had a great plot, because the plot was written by J.R.R. Tolkien!

Also keeping everything that was in the book doesn't necessarily mean it's a good adaptation. Film and literature are different mediums, and things that work in one won't work in the other. The Hobbit keeps everything in the book, but the added stuff makes it a poor adaptation because it is no longer the story of Bilbo and the dwarves by the end. It also doesn't match the book in tone at all.

I don't like the added romances plot much either, but I'm that that is now a sort of rule now that movies must have romance or people won't watch it. It's not really the fault of the people who made the movie, and as far as it goes I think that they did a better job with it than most. Also, Avatar didn't actually try to have a plot, it just nabbed the one of Pocahontas from Disney.I hated Avatar as well, though it at least tried to have a plot unlike Battle of The Five Armies.Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy is absolutely incredible and definitely the best thing to come out of big budget Hollywood. Does anybody have an idea for a Lord of the Rings sequel? You mean as a fanfic?
The Appendice B state what happens to all of the fellowship, but perhaps you could write about a non-fellowship character or you could write into the gaps.
If you want to write about the hobbits, make sure you check out the family trees! They have lots of interesting things about the hobbits' families, such as Pippin having three older sisters. They, as well as appendice B, also say the names of the hobbits' children. You could use much of this in your fanfic.

EDIT: The Dwarves also has a family tree, if you want to write about them!

it is not a trilogy of books, it is actually one whole book split into six, with 2 in each volume, that makes 3

Hi red_king_cyclops,Perhaps you are thinking of The Last Alliance of Elves and Men? There was also a lot of humans in The Battle of Helms Deep.
There was a battle called Battle Of The Men or something like that in Lord Of The Rings

I believe the seven books also have names:it is not a trilogy of books, it is actually one whole book split into six, with 2 in each volume, that makes 3Don't forget the seventh book, the appendices.
- The First Journey
- The Journey of the Nine Companions
- The Treason of Isengard
- The Journey of The Ringbearers
- The War of the Ring
- The End of the Third Age
- Appendices
Technically the Appendices have names too.
- Appendice A: Annals of the Kings and Rulers
- Appendice B: The Tale of Years
- Appendice C: Family Trees
- Appendice D:Shire Calendar for all Uses
- Appendice E: Writing and Spelling
- Appendice F
There is also a prologue containing ‘Concerning Hobbits’, ‘Concerning Pipe-weed’, and ‘Note on the Shire Record’.
