More Professional Option for Scratch

I was thinking, something where you type out the blocks instead if drag and drop. Something to branch off from basic and actually provide a path from basic to advanced, which scratch has (sadly) failed to do.

Why? I'm quite sure at this point a majority of Scratchers can already type.

If you want copy and paste, Scratch 3.0 has that (click on a block or stack then do ctrl/cmd + C; ctrl/cmd + V to paste) as a leftover feature from Blockly.

You can also use Tosh

make an option for scratch which is like any real programming language where you type out scripts instead of snapping together blocks

This wouldn't really make it more advanced though. Just potentially harder. It would still be structured like Scratch and have the same limitations Scratch has from being drag and drop but the added effort of typing.

Witty signature.

Scratch is a real programming language too; not all programming languages have to be typed out, it just so happens that the most commonly used ones (the most profitable) are text-based. However, typing out scripts is not a skill that Scratch needs to teach.

I have found it difficult to move from scratch to more professional languages, so typing is a skill it needs to teach

I think that just takes practice.

Yup – and, as mentioned above, Tosh is a good way to get used to typing out code. Since you're still basically using Scratch, the programming language you're familiar with, but using your keyboard to write your projects instead of the mouse!
