Why is the birth month collected?

I know that the year is used, but why does Scratch ask for your birth month too?

True, I guess it lets you know when someone will age up. That way it would be off by a month at most instead of a possible whole year. The Scratch team likely uses this more precise data when they look at statistics.

Having had my account(s) “hacked” multiple times the Scratch Team does not require that information to restore access to your account.
