When did video games start getting updates?

Heres a question that surprisingly no one on the internet asked about: when did video games start receiving updates? I'm talking about the type of updates in minecraft and fortnite, where the developer adds new features.

Minecraft started getting updates in 2009, when it was first released.

I have about 3450 posts, 90 shared projects, 180 total created/followed topics, and 425 followers.

When you say updates, do you mean the kind of updates that come out after the 1.0 version, are not DLC, and add new, fun features?

If so, my guess is 2012. In 2012, Minecraft received four major updates that added new features, such as the Wither.
