I'm working on an idea for a roleplay that is essentially a plot-based, extensive crossover. I have a backstory/initial plot already conceptualized, but I need help fleshing it out, as well as help with working on the nitty-gritty details of the RP.

The story I have so far is pretty similar to the plot of Lego Dimensions (R.I.P.), in that a central villain is intending to fuse all the dimensions into one. The problem is, this would wipe out all life in the multiverse, so everyone is forced to to work together to stop him from causing the end of the world as they know it.
Each dimension has one* item that acts as a key to full control over that dimension, which is necessary for the villain to complete his ‘universal fusion’. These are remnants of the original world that all life once lived on, which was split apart to deal with an ancient threat (that may or may not have some relation to the villain of the roleplay.)
*with some exceptions, such as groups of MacGuffins (like the Dragon Balls or Chaos Emeralds), or multiple parts of a single MacGuffin (such as the Triforce of Wisdom, Courage, and Power)

What are your suggestions?

What do you think I should design the villain as? The main antagonist of the roleplay and the character described in the backstory are two separate characters, but I don't have much of an idea on what direction to take them.

I can see you have been waiting for awhile for some kind of response, so here is an idea for the story you have thought up but continued. You should make some edits to it if you choose to use it, such as replacing Alpha Platformia with Earth and the square with a human.

Billions of years ago, all life in the universe lived on one massive plain called Primordia that had existed since the dawn of the universe. Primordia was a place where everybody was in complete peace and nothing was wrong. Eventually a corrupt creature called “Monsterion” came into existence, who was very, very evil and divided the peoples of Primordia in an attempt to take over the land and rule it all for himself. Eventually the people resorted to destroying Primordia and creating separate planets so there would be no more war. However, each planet still had a piece of this ancient land to remember the good old days, called “Primordions,” but their purpose and the existence of Primordia and other planets were forgotten. Monsterion managed to get a large piece of Primordia for himself and he called it “Primordia Nova.” Monsterion wants to collect all the Primordions to remake Primordion, but in his own image. He does not care or realize that completing his goal would end all life but his own.

One day, on a world called “Alpha Platformia,” which consists of most black and white and some other colors, a young square finds the legendary green item. The square discovers the green to be a Primordion and by touching it he gets a vision of Primordia. However, Monsterion tries to take the Primordion from the square, but the Primordion teleports the square to an asteroid that was once part of Primordia. Exploring the ruins of Primordia, the square finds an ancient device that tells the square that he is the chosen one, prophecied to save all worlds. The square uses the device to travel to various worlds based on various media franchises and collect the Primordions there. However, Monsterion has also been collection Primordions and starts using their power. Meanwhile, the square tries to create an army across worlds.

One day, Monsterion attacks the asteroid and it is blown to pieces. The square manages to teleport everybody to Alpha Platformia except himself, but all the Primordions are collected by Monsterion. The square accidentally teleports to Primordia Minor, a desert moon orbiting Primordia Nova. The square finds the last and most secret Primordion, which the square calls the “Tesseract,” and claims it for himself. This primordion is not actually a normal primordion, so Monsterion does not need it. The square uses an ancient device to teleport his friends to Minor Primordia and using the power of the last Primordion to make them jump off the surface of Minor Primordia onto Primordia Nova.

A massive battle follows. Monsterion has used the power of the Primordions to make a magical and massive army, and he has created the machine that will rebuild Primordia at the cost of all life. This machine will go off in a short period of time. The square makes it to the tower of Monsterion and he fights Monsterion, but the square cannot win. So, out of desperation, the square places the Tesseract into the machine, causing it to rapidly malfunction and destroy the machine and the tower. Monsterion has been defeated.

Primordia Nova enters a new dimension. Monsterion, in a last act of desperation, causes Primordia Minor to fall onto Primordia Nova. Monsterion falls into a wormhole. The good guys are teleported out of there by the square using the Primordions.

The square puts the people and the Primordions back where they were previously. The square has discovered that the Primordions can now be used to teleport to Primordia Nova, reuniting the planets and Primordia.

I like what you thought up! I'm probably going to modify it a bit, and unfortunately, keeping the second half is near impossible due to the unpredictability of other roleplayers.

Also, I thought of what the antagonist might look like. He could look like a giant, robotic Minotaur. This idea is a bit out there, however.

I'm not too worried about how the Big(er) Bad is going to look for the time being, since it should take a while for him/it to come into the picture. (For its name, I'm thinking of something like “Finis Omnium”, which is Latin for “end of all”, fitting my idea of it wanting to destroy everything in existence.)

As for the square character, I would, personally, like to have him be somewhat of a Lord Vortech expy, wanting to combine all the dimensions to create a “perfect” world (unknowingly being manipulated by the main big bad so that it would be able to break free). He would be the main villain for the roleplay, up to the point where (foregone conclusion) he obtains all the macguffins. (For the name of those, I'm thinking of something like “Cornerstone Relic”, but none of the names I've thought of sit well with me one hundred percent…)

I'm working on an animated trailer to cover the roleplay's backstory, that might help with conveying my ideas.

Edit: For the “Lord Vortech expy”, he was formerly a corporate spy that was tasked with stealing one of the unearthed macguffins, but was corrupted by Omnium upon contact with the item, and they were the one to put the idea in the former spy's head of creating a “perfect world”.
