Custom Cloud Variable Servers

Following Scratch Teams announcement to limit Cloud Variables to 128 characters to “cut costs” - I thought, why not just allow users to run and take the costs of cloud servers?
Here's how it works:
Users can launch their own cloud variable server using an open source library and can launch it by using Googles cloud platform, Amazons AWS or another cloud platform.
Then the user can request the Scratch team to add their server and pick options like how many variables can be on their server and the maximum length of these variables.

Then when you're making a project, you can right-click on a cloud variable and select “pick cloud server”. They then can pick an open server other than the main Scratch one and use that.

This will relieve strain on the Scratch servers and allow more options for cloud variables.

Closed topic - not enough support

Do you think enough users would do this?

Advanced users would. (i.e griffpatch, World_Languages extra)

Aww- I was going to suggest this! Yes, support because it doesn’t cost ST anything extra, and people work harder on cloud projects. I do think though that normal scratchers should be still able to access 128 numbers, though.

No support, already possible.

Not without browser extensions or userscripts. I'm talking about native support.

You can already keep your own server up and use cloud variables for the client and server to talk to each other. No support.

It seems you've misunderstood.

This is to bypass the 128 character limit and relieve strain on Scratch servers. Please read the OP.

Well what about moderation of those servers? Is the scratcher who made the server going to moderate it?

They would face the same rules as the current Scratch Servers(i.e numbers only, moderated by Scratch team through projects)

How would Scratch Team moderate/access external servers that are yours?

You could make a discord chat convert it to numbers and then you get unmoderated chat!

Does n!+1=m^2 have interger solutions apart from n=4,5,7?

Scratch Chat rooms have been around for a while. They would face the same moderation and custom servers are submitted and approved by the scratch team.

Not anymore.

We have added a 128 character limit and we are now restricting cloud variables to be numbers only (no hexadecimal, E-notation, etc). These new limits were put into place to prevent abuse of the cloud variables system that was causing it to be unreasonable to maintain, scale, moderate, and support financially.

Seems very hard to moderate and would be very hard to implement. It doesn't seem very user-friendly and to me, that outweighs the benefits.
No support.

I did a thing once. Also a wiki ‘contributor’.
Node.js is cool.
