making variables change if a sprite touches another sprite

In Sprite 1, (one of the sprites to be touched), do this:
when green flag clicked
forever
if <touching [Sprite 2 v] ?> then //Sprite 2 is the second sprite. Sprite 1 and Sprite 2 are going to be touching
change [var v] by (1)
end
end

If they say the sky's the limit, then why are there footprints on the moon?

I hope this helps! If you need any further, clarification, just ask!
