Since when did you need to enter your country to register?

When I signed up, I was given the option not to select my country. Now the website requires a country. When did Scratch start requiring users to provide their country?

Um, it's been asking for a country for as long as I can remember. When did you first sign up?

EDIT: Did you first sign up 2 years 9 months ago? I'm asking because you may have an older account.

It's been like that for a while. If you don't feel comfortable entering your country, you can select a country that you don't really live in.

Yeah, Antarctica is the most common one that people use.

Probably about 3 years ago, but now Scratch likes to collect data on how many people are using Scratch in a country.

I’ve seen Antarctica more often, though you are right, some people do use North Korea.

I believe OP is asking about when they required you to enter a country. They've always asked but one the options used to be blank.
I think they made the change back when users started changing their display into technically valid options not available in the drop down list.

There are only 2 visible uses for the country. That is the statistics page, where the user amounts are displayed of each country: https://scratch.mit.edu/statistics/
And your profile.
