What do People Want on Their Profile?

On a lot of profiles, you might see comments saying “Follow me!” or “How old are you?”. It just doesn't seem right. This guide will help you know what is, and isn't good for you to be typing on someone's page!

Follow for follow?
Many people do not like “follow for follow”. Following is a feature of the Scratch website that allows people to get a feed of activities that a person you are following does. It is not a popularity contest, or a “Haha, I have more followers than you”. It's just that. Lets say, what if in real life, someone just said “Hi there, do you like this and that?”. It would be kind of awkward, depending on you. Following is also used as a friend method. But with a random follow for follow, it just corrupts it all, and “raises the inflation”.

Are you a boy?
This kind of thing isn't very bad, but still a bit annoying. It is also sharing a bit of personal information, again making it awkward. It also gives the whole world a bit of information on him/her. That's THE WHOLE WORLD that knows that now!

How old are you?
This is a bad one. You almost NEVER want to ask this. It's very embarrassing when they might say “I don't share personal information”. Some people “rate” each other based on age; an 8 year old most likely will not get as popular as a 20 year old professional Scratcher. Even though they may be the same in skill! This also bends the rule on the community guidelines: Do not share personal information; keep that private". It is only OK when they say that on their About Me, but would still be a pointless comment.

Bragging/comparing
This isn't a very common thing to happen, but it has happened before. A person might know more than you, or have more than you, based on the profile, projects, or even icons/logos. You might know that, and you most likely do not care how much better they are. But it takes it a bit far when somebody (wow, I haven't wrote this in a while) starts bragging to you:
“@lalalalalalalalala has a headset. Do you?”
Or, “I have 50 more followers!”
