Getting sick and tired of Flash

My browser / operating system: Ubuntu Linux, Firefox 56.0, Flash 27.0 (release 0)

As a rule I use the off-line editor as much as possible. When I have finished a project, and I feel it's worth sharing, I will upload to the Scratch website - as we all do, right?

Occasionally I will download another Scratchers project to either learn from or upgrade. That's my intent at least… I successfully ‘remix’ the project, but when it comes down to downloading to my computer, Adobe Flash pops its ugly head up and crashes. Not once but EVERY time. Reinstall of Firefox; Adobe Flashplayer does absolutely nothing.

What's that you say? Use another browser? Great idea. Fired up Google Chrome. Jumped onto the scratch site; Started a new project; Import a backdrop… Chrome froze (every time - even after a fresh install) not only that but locked up my system. Had to power down. Maybe it was a one-off even?. Nope. Did it again!

I really enjoy using Scratch, but if this problem with Flash is not fixed, it's going to be a “deal breaker”. I do not know what has changed. I have been using Scratch since version 1.4, and until some time ago - cannot remember exactly - I have had no problem sharing projects.

At lease my off-line editor continues to run flawlessly.

I am slowly beginning to think that Adobe is trying to phase out support for Linux… but that's just a theory…

I downloaded a project just fine a few hours ago… It might just be you.

Understood. I can remix AND download from Scratch site using Google Chrome but cannot upload images into the online editor. I can use the online editor and remix using firefox but cannot download remixed projects. The processes that I use to upload and download have been the same since scratch 2.0 was created. It possible that “a” browser may fail, but both browsers, performing different tasks? I still think the problem may be with Flash. It's the only “common” connection with both browsers. I am extremely limited to which browser to use. Scratch only supports a few…

I do not have a problem with scratch. It runs great but it's getting more and more frustrating not being able to share… My apologies for ranting on… most frustrating… and no, I have not discounted the possibility that it may be myself at fault. My amount of experience with scratch would make that most unlikely… There is also an outside chance that the problem may be between Adobe and Firefox… I'm running out of ideas and coffee.. lol

The only problem that I've ever had with that is that at one point I had difficulties uploading pictures to the online editor. It may not have to do with your browser, but with your computer altogether, or your networking. Maybe something is wrong with your internet?

I help with scripting, graphics, and any questions you have about Scratch! Please contact my profile if you have any questions at all!

If you need a request of any kind, I would be happy to possibly assist you.

Hello,

Have you tried updating Firefox & Flash? A user who reported what sounds like the same issue found that the latest updates fixed this for them.

Thanks!
