I've noticed them but I have no other information about them except for the fact that it is interesting that they are happening in around the same time as when the explore section is being closed.

Well,i don't know what you mean scratch “explodes”,but at 7:35(?) PM my time,scratch was down for maintenence.

EDIT: It says this when I try to “explore” galleries and projects.

This happened to me yesterday! I was making a project and the project didnt save because of the server, so it kept trying to save OVER and OVER again. Just remember, cloud variables are unstable and may cause problems to the server. Also, New Scratchers get registered at a high rate so that could hog up the space too.

Not happening to me.
But that might be because I'm busier now.

I've been noticing these downtimes for a few days already, and it's not the nicest thing to run into. Still, with all the new Scratchers we've gotten in the past six months, it's expected. The number of active users has almost doubled; that's a lot of load on the servers for sure.

@Mewly:
That's a bit of a side effect of Scratch's new traffic; Scratch doesn't have enough servers to deal with all of it. So it has to cut a few features out until things start calming down again.
