There a many laws regarding the use of information and privacy online. If the US govt stopped regulating where certain ISPS could operate, there would be no drawbacks to repealing net neutrality.
it would cause a LOT of drawbacks, ISP's would LOVE to rack in as much money as possible, if net neutrality gets repealed ISP's will have the freedom to charge small business's, bloggers, organizations (profit AND nonprofit), big companies, etc. for no reason. and where do those being charged get their money from? US!
Do you really think no one would boycott them if they made a move like that?

of course someone would, but it probably wouldn't work.

Jromagnoli, what makes you against net neutrality? What is wrong with it? I think that it is positive for the internet. I don't like the idea of ISPs being able to control my internet.
thank you

Pretty sure the original creator of this tread and many people who supported it forgot it
no, the thread isn't completely gone yet, and net neutrality still matters.
pretend net neutrality is an orange and the senate is a person holding it over the edge of a skyscraper.
at the election, senate could either drop the orange, in which the orange would fall for some time then SPLAT its irreparable.
or senate could keep holding on, and save that marvelous orange.
ISP's could be stuck in the elevator while we try to stop the repairman (ajit pai) from letting them up to grab the orange and throw it
(i know it's an awful simile)
that or you could magically make the orange duplicate into a thousand of them and be inextricably bound to the people who want to throw them, therefore, if they throw the orange, the orange goes splat… but they do too.

It's called mutually assured destruction. And it's the only thing keeping wars from really happening these days.

Exactly my opinion. NN is stupid - it binds ISPs from doing things GOOD for their customers using throttling (such as throttling spam and such, or providing a preferential ‘fast lane’ to all time sensitive services such as streaming or gaming). They won't do bad things because if they charge random companies fees for the ‘fast lane’, A. those companies won't fork over the dough, or they shouldn't, and B. the companies vanish from the networks briefly, causing a consumer riot, thus meaning that, yes, they can make life suck for us and kill businesses in the process - but it's likely their business will tank if they do so.

Because this topic is old and has little relevancy at this point.
