Character Analysis... Theme: Harry Potter

What makes a character… A character? Personality? Looks? Everything?
I REALLY want to figure it all out, so I've created a discuss so we might be able to set up a debate for this matter.
First character: Hermione Granger
What make her… Her?

Rules:
The key word is DEBATE. Nice and clean. No arguments. They're very different.

P.S. To go to…
Percy Jackson themed debate
Hunger Games themed

Hmm, I was curious about this too. I'm pretty sure a lot of it has to do with the character's personality, and how they react to the situations thrown in front of them. After all, aren't books mostly about the protagonist finding their way through (or avoiding) different circumstances that the author has laid down? It's also important to consider them in completely ordinary conditions. In Hermione's case, it's how she is first introduced, how she deals with whatever is happening to her at the moment, etc, etc.

You're right. But doesn't her appearance also inferences the mood? By giving her ‘frizzy brown hair’ that flys all over the place, I guess the author is also saying that Hermione doesn't really care about looks. And when she dressed up to go with Victor for the Yule ball, it's like saying that, you know, she's growing up, taking more care about her looks and everything. She became more sensitive to how others feel about her.
