What about gaming controllers?

I think that game controllers (like Xbox, Dual Shock, Wii U Pro, and Joy-Con) should be able to connect to Scratch in Scratch 3.1.
There could be blocks like:

<button [left trigger v] pressed? :: extension>
<button [triangle v] pressed? :: extension>
<button [ZR v] pressed? :: extension>
(left stick direction :: extension)
(left stick strength :: extension)
(right stick direction :: extension)
(right stick strength :: extension)

One way you could use controllers is to trick your computer into recognizing it as a keyboard, but that's not the best way to do it…

Could the Wii U Pro Controller also be considered or not?

What about gaming controllers?

I've made a bit of a BODGED gaming controller extension, it works fine for xbox controllers (tbh only tested 360 but I'm sure xbox one works fine according to THIS WEBSITE: http://html5gamepad.com/ (feel free to test other controllers and let me know your results)

Currently there is no documentation for each individual button presses because I wanted it to work for both ps4 and xbox without naming each button (but also because other people call different buttons different things, such as the mushrooms or sticks as some people call them). But you can take a look at this project of mine if you want some basic idea of each button: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/255867457/.

It supports vibration but atm it only works on chrome due to Firefox working a bit differently, an easy fix but I'm not sure Firefox supports it yet.

The link to the extension is HERE: https://gist.github.com/mytopdog/1ef2ccdb67f60994429941090cd016bb/

What about gaming controllers?

I totally agree! You can already use micro bit and that uses Bluetooth. Nintendo switch controllers also use Bluetooth so it wouldn’t be too difficult.

Anything with Bluetooth should work with Scratch if they allow this. Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch all have Bluetooth and USB so I think its an awesome idea they should do this

Keep in mind that these will cost money, no matter what. A Dualshock 4 Controller is $60, and Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons are like $80. And all of that money just to play a platformer with your xbox one controller? This would be pretty sick if you already had a controller like this, but it might make the people that don't feel bad. Yet again, I guess that's true for every extension that you have to buy… But other than that, this sounds like a good idea.
