Delayed text tool input in vector editor

I'm in the scratch backdrop editor in vector mode trying to use the text tool. I'm noticing a really long and painful delay from when i'm typing the text and when it's appearing onscreen. it takes about one second for the text to start appearing, and then there is a one second gap in between each individual character I'm typing. what's even more annoying is that to correct a typo I have to wait for the text to catch up to where I am first, then tap the backspace key however many spaces back the typo is, then keep going because if i hold the button down like I normally do, it inches to the point I got, and then inches back deleting everything for however long I was holding down the button, meaning I delete stuff before the typo I didn't want to.

My browser / operating system: Windows NT 10.0, Firefox 52.0, Flash 25.0 (release 0)

Delayed text tool input in vector editor

Duplicate of https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/152600 (though I have to admit that I think the title of this is a better overall description of the issue).

See my post with a bit more info about exactly when it happens, and how I tend to try to work around it:

It does look like this is a duplicate topic so I'll close it to keep the conversation all in one place.
