Qloq - Game Development

Qloq is a game development collaboration dedicated to creating not time-wasters, but meaningful games that players can relate to, or at least actually have to think about when playing.

Some examples of games in the style intended by Qloq are below.

Members' To-Do List:

Artists: A simplified logo for less common use.

Coders: (optional, may or may not be used) A text-writing script/engine, to type text directly instead of requiring us using lists. This is so we don't have to sacrifice the atmosphere of our game by using the Scratch GUI.

Everybody: We need to decide on a theme of some sort.

Locate

Along with this forum topic, we have a scratch account.
Respective studios can be found there.

Hiring

We are no longer officially hiring, but you can still request to join if you want to, and I'll see if we could use someone in that position.

I guess I could do some artwork. . . . I'm currently also working on the Clash of Clans collab mentioned in my signature, but I should be able to help.

Original text:
“Scratch is an educational programming language aimed at children. It was developed in MIT, America.”
..35 translations later, Bing gives us:
“Australia Institute created the children's education, it doesn't matter.”
The above translation is courtesy of Akuna Bad Translator.
Please welcome my sister, gingerninja97, to the Scratch website!
< You (or more correctly, lesser known Scratchers) won't be unknown anymore.

Thanks.
How about I put you down as a part time artist, since youre already working on CoC?

I don't want to take part in any positions. However, I do want to help. Would you be fine with me advertising this group in my next Scratch Games Weekly?

Sure, thanks! I'll put you on the list as “support” if that's fine with you.

I would like to join as an artists, but I can also help with the coding aswell.

Examples:
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/16040995/ - A Vector Ship
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/15948768/ - An unfinished game's user interface
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/14907182/ - Remade Art
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/13171572/ - Programmed Text Game

I'd like to join as an artist (but not a spriter; I can't sprite), and I could also supply some music.

(I also usually have a surplus of story and character ideas.)

I'm also available to help with code, if necessary, but keep in mind that I'm the type of person who sneaks intentional pranks into projects like these.

This seems really interesting and I've always wanted to make my projects memorable, too.
I'm not very active anymore but I am willing to write music for the game and I will stay up to date on whats happening.
I also consider myself very good at coding with scratch so if you need help with that I am willing.
Some examples of my music and coding are in Doodle Pop and Meteor defense.

I was going to “officially” begin that discussion tomorrow, but as I won't be here most of the day, we may as well start brainstorming now.
I have several ideas, but most of them are a bit more large scale than I think we should do for a first game. One thing I often do is come up with an abstract concept (such as time, memories, reflection, pain, joy, etc.) and find a way that relates to people. Then I think of ways to implement that in a game.

I'll get started on a list. You guys' ideas?

Here's my idea for the logo:

What do you think?

And as for ideas, I think we could do a text adventure-type game (I made one of those with a few lists before), but with a very complex storyline and some graphics and music for added effect. The coding would be relatively easy to do, so we could easily focus on important stuff like the story. If we write it well, the project won't be forgotten anytime soon.

That's a great idea. We could make our own text engine too so we wouldn't have to use scratch's answer blocks which may or may not fit the theme of the game.
Also, I like the logo but it looks a little pixelated on the outside.

I can fix the logo pretty easily if we do end up using it.

But as for the text adventure, the real question comes down to what it should be about. I have a surplus of ideas (and when I say that, I mean enough to completely fill three spiral notebooks) but I'm not sure they're what we're looking for.

If we're aiming for something thought-provoking (in any type of game, actually), we're going to need great characters. I could host a Google doc or something similar for the discussion of these.

The logo looks great. Pehaps we could have a simpler black and white version for usage where we might want less attention drawn to it? Only if you feel like making one. In the meantime, I'll set that one as the user avatar.

As for the game. I agree a text based adventure would be a great idea, but perhaps we could go even farther and illustrate it? I think we could do quite a bit with some simple black and white drawings, and then have a window for the text.

And I'll be getting on google docs a lot in the near future, so that should work well for me. If anyone can't do that I'm sure we'll figure something out.

Yeah, we could have an illustration on the side that changes when you move around the game.

I'll get to work on a text writing engine so we don't have to use lists. Unless you guys want to continue brainstorming and find a different idea. Or already have a text writing engine that will work well for us.

On second thought, I'm going to officially pass that on to you code guys. I still can't seem to get mine to work without glitching terribly…

I don't know; I actually rather like the appearance of lists for text adventures. I could get to work on an engine if it would work better, though..
