Scratch Merchandise (I know there are books)
Can't see myself supporting this - it gives rise to too many potential issues in my opinion, as listed below
1. Manufacturing
Considering the limited customer base, manufacturing could be expensive as Scratch wouldn't be able to order in mass, likely not expecting to make money. There'd also be the process of finding a manufacturer, etc
2. Customer base
I don't see very high demand for it. I understand some people say their want it - but - I doubt there would be large demand. Scratch could expect some orders, however, I don't see it being enough to actually justify the means of finding designers, legal processes, creation etc.
3. Potential ethical concerns
Whilst this is limited, Scratch generally, in the past, has attempted to be a relatively ethical corporation. Producing and selling a product, especially with the moral expectations of a company (ie, how would Scratch react to political events etc). I also see the potential of the manufacturing process to be critical… especially considering the questionable standards in many cheaper factories.
4. Costs!
I don't think the costs justify the product. Design, upkeep, putting up a website, selling it could require a lot of work and costs. Considering the limited customer base, I don't think Scratch could guarantee this money back, which would take away money from the running of Scratch and its goals. Tying into this, it could end up wasting the valuable time of Scratch's team and staff.
I understand the want to have these - the design in the first post is nice and I admire such crafts. However, the potential issues far outweigh the possibilities and use. It's unfortunate but we must consider these downsides, even with high support. Maybe, there'd be a way for the ST to see in advance how many people would actually order it (maybe via a funding website?)?

If it did, the Scratch Team wouldn't be selling stuff already. isn't Scratch non-profit? wouldn't this go against that?

I think i remember seeing that image before in a post suggesting the same thing, so I'm gonna consider this a dupe.
I'm not talking about the post that this is trying to revive.
There was also a studio for this too https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/27441654

Non-profit simply means not making a profit, if scratch uses the money it makes to, for example, make the website better, it would still be non-profit, as they wouldn't be making any profit. isn't Scratch non-profit? wouldn't this go against that?

Yeah but wont that kinda be illegal if someone tries to sell them?Non-profit simply means not making a profit, if scratch uses the money it makes to, for example, make the website better, it would still be non-profit, as they wouldn't be making any profit. isn't Scratch non-profit? wouldn't this go against that? Can't see myself supporting this - it gives rise to too many potential issues in my opinion, as listed below

You make very gud points, maybe scratch could instead give out instructions on HOW to make plushies, and have people make their own plushies and post them on scrathc? that would be cool and not cost any money (and be educational, its good to know how to sew)

https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/33566 ) since it was a pretty good suggestion. How about some scratch plush toys? The closest thing I found was https://twitter.com/mres/status/1208452294259249152?lang=en but i don't think those were made public for anyone to buy. I think it's a pretty cool idea, especially to have all the scratch mascots in plush form.As much as I'd want one, Scratch is non-profit and perhaps plushies would interfere with that. I am bringing back a topic from 2014 (
EDIT: How the Scratch Team responds will influence the likelihood of this happening. Also if the money went to funding the servers, then perhaps it'd still be fine, but there are other concerns addressed by other users.

Depends on what the ST thinks, since scratch is non-profit, scratch cat could be under the common license thingie (I forgot name), which allows people for commercial use under some specific cercumstances, also, why would people sell it anyways? it would still be illegal without the instructioinsYeah but wont that kinda be illegal if someone tries to sell them?Non-profit simply means not making a profit, if scratch uses the money it makes to, for example, make the website better, it would still be non-profit, as they wouldn't be making any profit. isn't Scratch non-profit? wouldn't this go against that? Can't see myself supporting this - it gives rise to too many potential issues in my opinion, as listed below

Alright everyone, I want to make something clear. The scratch team already sells stuff. Therefore, this wouldn’t be a non-profit-org problem.

This is taken from a similar topic that I commented on about the possibility of plushies, however I believe it is relevant here too.
