I think achievements should be added to Scratch. This would just give scratchers the opportunity to make themselves more popular with high achievement scores etc….

None of the achievements would be terrible ones like LIKE OUR FACEBOOK or YOU JOINED SCRATCH

These achievements could include
Having a featured project
Having a featured studio
Be in “being loved/Favorited remixed”
Have (number of views) on a project
(number) of forum posts
Have a project curated
OR even fun ones like
“added a project to christmas studio”
“won the scratch easter project competition”

You could also select a main badge and put it on the front of your profile or on the forum.

What do you guys think???

10. Game badges/achievements

This would harm Scratch's purpose, and people would determine their social worth on the site based on achievements in games, and some users would act as if they are more important than others merely because they have more game badges.

Achievements

Sounds like these would make the popular people more popular… not good.

You could do achievements unrelated to popularity or activity and more related to using the features of scratch and learning programming.

Examples of NOT GOOD achievements:
  • Get your project featured
  • Get _ loves on a project
  • Make _ projects
  • Make _ forum posts

Examples of GOOD achievements:
  • Use all the blocks in the Scratch editor
  • Share a project
  • Post a comment
  • Love a project
  • Post a new topic on the forums
  • Post a reply on the forums
  • Create a studio
  • Get a project in the Scratch Design Studio
  • Read a wiki article
  • Read _ tips pages

I know some of my examples of good achievements sound super-easy but they help new Scratchers learn how to use Scratch and become a part of the Scratch community. There could also be harder achievements, though. I also think there could be “completion badges” such as one for the editor for getting all of the editor achievements and others like forums. I like your idea about displaying an achievement (or completion badge with my idea) on your profile but do not find a point in showing it on the forums. I don't think they should affect popularity (ex. front-paging) since that would cause what people are trying to prevent. Also, since my idea is so different than yours, I made it it’s own topic.

These achievements vary in quality, so I'll respond to each one individually if that's fine with you.

Having a featured project
Sure, being rewarded for quality.
Having a featured studio
No. Anyone can make a studio, and it's really easy.
Be in “being loved/Favorited remixed”
No. This will encourage people to do things like “remix this project if” which clogs up the main page and covers up the truly quality projects.
Have (number of views) on a project
So basically having an inviting thumbnail? Looking at a project means nothing towards whether it's good.
(number) of forum posts
No. No. No. No. Spam.
Have a project curated

OR even fun ones like

“added a project to christmas studio”
Maybe. There's going to be a lot more low-effort projects being added.
“won the scratch easter project competition”
This one I like a lot. Working really hard on a project, and being rewarded for it.

Isn't
Get a project in the Scratch Design Studio A little bit popularity related
And the scratch team already rejected achievements.
