And it is usually something simple, not complex. For example, a complete book or a movie would never be a meme, but a scene from the movie or a line from the book might become a meme.

What is meme?

Memes by definition (at least on the internet),

Google wrote:

a humorous image, video, piece of text, etc. that is copied (often with slight variations) and spread rapidly by Internet users.

In other words, memes are popular posts that end up going viral on the internet. However, you can't really “make” a trend, because trends usually follow in gradual amounts.

What is meme?

A meme is something that becomes popular through repetition. However, it's usually misinterpreted as a funny image/video/quote/quote/etc. that goes viral online.

For example: The Sonic forms meme on Deviantart is a meme, as it allows repetition.

Harambe, Nyan Cat, rickrolling, rage comics, Sanic, “Still a better love story than Twilight”, “It's no use”, screaming goat, and lolcats are examples of memes under the misinterpreted definition.

Technically, those are actual memes. The way they spread is from people repeatedly posting them online, often with variations.

What is meme?

Like what PrincessPanda_test_ said, memes are funny images, videos and more that have became popular on the internet. They are commonly mistaken for MeMes, which are usually short animations of animals that dance to music. MeMes are probably the projects you are seeing, as most project with “meme” in the title are actually MeMes.

Example of memes: The Bee Movie Script, rickrolling, My Name Is Jeff, Nyan Cat, Trolololo Song, Sanic, and Supra Mayro.

It's a meme because of the novelty of having an entire movie in a forum post, or something similar.

What is meme?

As a matter of fact, no, I have NOT heard of the entire Bee Movie Script, so I guess it's not a very successful meme, is it?

So I Googled it, of course, and found out it is NOT the script itself that it is the meme, it's the image of the script. For instance, it's on a T-shirt. It's a copy pasta. Nobody is reading the whole thing, just the first few lines.

Just because someone says something is a meme doesn't make it a meme. It actually has to behave like a meme.

Actual Bee Movie Script in a text file - not a meme
Image of the entire Bee Movie Script - a meme

First of all, how could you have NOT heard of the Bee Movie Script?
Second of all, the definition of “meme” has changed.
Third of all, don't necropost!
