Raspberry PI 3 and scratch 2.0

Hello all,
I am in charge of a year 3 (7-8 year olds) class and have been using scratch to teach programming. It is a great tool and I want to carry on using it to teach robotics.

I am currently trying to set up a raspberry pi to work with scratch - they are used to using scratch 2.0 and I want to make use of the “more blocks” function as well as full access to the Lego WeDo blocks etc.

Here is my problem:
As far as I have managed to get
- Scratch 1.4 works out of the box, but has very limited WeDo controls and no scope to build new blocks.
- Scratch 2.0 only works in the online version (offline requires adobe air which seems impossible to install) and only has support for MacOS when using Lego WeDo.

Has anyone managed to get scratch 2.0 offline editor working in Raspbian?
