Scratch Editor and Player for Android

Hello Scratchers! I would like to introduce ScratchPE (Scratch Pocket Edition).

ScratchPE is not online since I haven't gotten permission from the Scratch Team.
I posted this discussion forum to ask Scratchers and the Scratch Team.

say [Is it ok if I release the Scratch Editor online?]
say [Or does the Scratch Team have a reason why they made the editor flash?]
Asking: [What is Your Answer?]
Thank You For Visiting My Forum!

You can't use “Scratch” in the name of your projects, it is trademarked and using it would require legal action from the trademark holders.
Also don't blockspam (using irrelavant scratch blocks)
They most probably made it flash as it is very portable.
Also as long as you don't use the name scratch, and you compiled it from the Scratch Source (not using the online swf)

If I understand right, you can release your app, as long as:
  • It doesn't use any of the Scratch trademarks (e.g. the name, logo, Scratch Cat, Gobo, etc)
  • It is licensed under the GPL (what scratch-flash is licensed under)
This means you have to release the source code, and people are allowed to distribute it (so, for example, it would be a bad idea to sell it).

I could be wrong, however - this is just based on my incredibly limited knowledge of licensing / copyright law.

The best thing to do would be to contact the Scratch Team directly and ask under what conditions you could release your project.

Would it be OK if I changed the editor name to “iSB”?
And if the editor includes the blocks that is same as the Scratch editor, would it be illegal?

Well it doesn't include scratch so I don't think so. (As long as SB doesn't mean Scratch Blocks)

IF it's from the Scratch Source Code then no it's not illegal.
