[✘ Block] User Button (Please Read ;-;)
I'm aware that only about 0.01% of suggestions that are put in this section of the Discuss forums are accepted, but I thought I'd go ahead and try anyways because this is a feature that I really feel is important to be added. What I'm suggesting here today is a block button to be added next to the “follow” button on any user profile. Any user can block another user as they please. Here's a picture of my proposed block button:

Basically, once a user blocks another, the blocked user can no longer post comments on the profile of the person who blocked them (though they can report them), nor their projects (again, reporting is still always an option), and they can't reply to the comments of the user who blocked them. Other than that, they're free to do as they please. However, unlike the “follow” button, the “block” button will have a warning that appears before the block actually takes place. It would look something like this:

This way the user can either go back if they made a mistake, or see it through to the actual block. I was also going to suggest that the user who was blocked get a notification saying “___ blocked you,” however, that would just cause more unnecessary chaos. I really feel like the block button could be very beneficial in several situations, and is a good addition to Scratch, especially for those parents who are concerned about the reasons people follow their children.
Please leave your thoughts, comments, suggestions, etc.! If you support, let me know! Thanks so much!
All graphics were done in the “inspect” element.

Would you be able to block yourself? No xD Just like you can't follow yourself. I'm sure someone would find a way to cheat and block themselves, but it wouldn't do them any good. Do you support the cause?

This is a very well put together suggestion, but unfortunately it's been rejected:
We found that it just buried problems rather than fixing them. It was also very easy to circumvent by creating an alt account. Additionally, it was confusing having multiple views of the site - things that some people could see but others could not.

Would be a great idea, if it didn't give Scratchers power over other people

Yeah. Unfortunately, like another said, this has been rejected. Also you can simply report the user if any inappropriate content appears. This way, you can solve the issue directly at the source, and no further drama is necessary.

I'm sorry, it's rejected by the stickies, because the Blocking feature has a negative impact.

If a user's being problematic then you can report them or use Contact Us. There's no situation I can think of where a block button would be a more appropriate solution than that.

I support with my whole heart, as this wouls greatly improve the website, but sadly the scratch team just prefers to have us not discuss about this, silencing us instead.

How would this improve the website? They aren't silencing us, it's a design choice that they think would be bad, period.
No support. Just use Contact Us or the Report Button, there is no situation where a block button would help.

- Scratchers that have been abusive to you
- Scratchers with whom you had bad experiences in the past, that have already been alerted (and not banned), but still left some damage on you
- People who have been abusive to you in other websites, but have found you on Scratch
I have had many traumatic experiences with certain users in this website, and I would like to not hear about them again. But y'know, Scratch Team generally doesn't care about that and prefer to go with the “REPORTING IS ALWAYS THE SOLUTION” formula, pretending that our problems are not so relevant and therefore silencing us.
(ok that post wasn't the greatest, so i may come with a better one later)

Having been on a lot of other sites where the majority of people are teenagers + adults, I'd probably have a biased opinion on this … :'-)
However, I believe the Block option would be very useful – if it's not something completely wrong (besides, the ST can't always attend to smaller issues, as we should all understand by now) but it's simply bothering us, there should be a quick way to remove (either permanently or temporarily) whoever is causing the disruption. I understand it can be confusing at times, but it'd be very convenient, from my point of view (again, I've had more experience on sites targeted toward an older crowd, so I'm not trying to force my viewpoint on anyone here). JMO~
@Yugen, you did a great job with the graphics, btw~ :')

By saying “Reporting is best” how are they silencing you? The Scratch Team reviews all reports in 24 hours, and th eproccess contains more communication that just blocking. No support. Just use Contact Us or the Report Button, there is no situation where a block button would help.

In the past, we had a block option like this. However, we found it was ineffective, and therefore had it removed.

Wouldn't the blocking option give you a reason to not report?Exactly. That's why it's bad.
@Rachyl: Reporting IS best. How is it silencing you? If you think about it, it's actually giving you more power than simply blocking. It's giving you the power to potentially ban the offending user.
Also, Blocking is still ineffective. One can easily make alt accounts to get around the block and harass you further. And before you say ‘people can get around bans that way as well: that’s what IP banning is for.
