Why cloud variables only use letters.
One day, I find that Scratch have cloud variables ! I have a lot of ideas, but… “actually, only numbers are allowed on cloud variables”.
Is there someone can tell me why ?
Thank.
PS:Sorry if there is English mistakes, I am french.

It's because people could make chat rooms and other places for different people to chat using scratch. This means, anyone could exploit the Scratch Community Guidelines and use unacceptable language and not get caught. This could lead to serious issues arising in the scratch community hence why they forbid the use of letters when using cloud variables.
Hope this explains and clears up everything

The current site is limited to numbers in variables as an initial step to work out any issues with their use on the site. We plan to roll out cloud data features incrementally. If the infrastructure is working well, we plan to add other features (cloud lists, support for strings, etc.).
The Scratch admins want to test the cloud variables on this page first and look if there are any glitches/bugs. To be sure all things work correctly they only allowed numbers first. When they think that cloud variables work perfectly, they'll add cloud lists, allow words in variables, etc…

Possibly. Cloud variables have been out long enough with no sign that anything is going to change so best to assume it won't for now.The current site is limited to numbers in variables as an initial step to work out any issues with their use on the site.
