Characters you feel sorry for

What characters in media do you just absolutely pity? I have a good list:
Mr. Matsuda from Death Note. Just an innocent nice idol manager-turned-policeman who everyone else on the task force found absolutely useless. He does prove himself to be a useful addition to the team, and of course we can't forget the final episode when….well, you know. I won't spoil. But still, I just always kinda felt sorry for the poor guy.
Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants. All the guy ever wanted was some peace and quiet and some appreciation for his art. Worse still, there are many episodes, ESPECIALLY post-movie, that just revolve around him getting beaten up and being missrable. He never really asked for much.
Tomoko from Watamote. I don't think much needs to be said about her. She just fights her anxiety every day and all she wants is to gave friends and talk like a normal person. I can sympathize with her on many levels.
Candace from Phineas and Ferb. Can you imagine how aggrivated she's have gotten over those out-of-universe eight years? Yes, she has busted her brothers before, but only in dreams, or in an AU that had to be fixed, etc. I don't think much has to be said on this one either.
Miku in Hello Planet. Just…everything about Hello Planet. Can't watch it without crying.
Banette from Pokemon. They are just plush dolls who were disowned and are searching for their owners. I don't recall the dex ever saying they actually HAUNT the kid. Worse for me since I have very animist views towards plush dolls in particular. I don't know if there's an episode about Banette but I'd love to watch it.
And finally for me would be Yuu Koutari and Strength from Black Rock Shooter. This one'd take FOREVER to explain, so just look it up or watch the series if you're curious.
What about you? Which characters do you just feel bad for?

1. Sans.
Just.. imagine how sad he is after all those resets Frisk has done, and in the No Mercy run, he seems REALLY sad. Especially if you KILL PAPYRUS, he'll be like “Y o u d i r t y b r o t h e r k i l l e r.”
2. Sōn Gohan.
Goku barely even acts like a “dad” to him. The only person who really acts like his father is Piccolo.
3. Luigi.
He's always the one behind Mario's shadow, and everyone just calls him “Green Mario.”

I feel really bad Alphys because of how a relevant part of the Undertale fandom treats her.

And Napstablook because of people constantly calling them a “he” or a “she”.

Silver the Hedgehog

He's my favorite character, however he receives tons of hate just for debuting in a terrible game. Guys, he's just a nice futuristic hedgehog who can use psychokinesis. Silver should be treated like the other characters.

Any character that dies in Homestuck. (There's a lot of death in HS.)

Especially when John dies while fighting Jack Noir. ;-;

Since I don't really explore anime or manga… or other video games… my characters are kind of well known (except the last one). WARNING: THERE BE SPOILERS AHEAD!

Cubone—Pokemon
Let's be honest. Not one Pokemon game's Pokedex spares Cubone from the fact that its mother is dead. Its. Mom. Is. DEAD. Also, this suggests that every female Marowak is doomed to die after giving birth so its baby can wear its skull. You know, FOR KIDS.

Luigi—Mario
Everyone knows… er… what was his name again? Green Mario? Green ‘Stache? Green Man? Number 2? OH, I REMEMBER! It’s Luigigi! No, wait… Luigi! That's it! That guy that holds the home front while Mario goes out on adventures and is honored as a hero!

Bowser—Mario
Ah yes, Bowser… the one that always follows a weekly routine; invade the kingdom, steal the princess, get beaten up, lose princess, repeat until the enemy is defeated or you die. That's depressing. Also, it's been confirmed in numerous pieces of media in the franchise that Bowser not only kidnaps Princess Peach for world conquest… he has a bit of affection for her. Really. In the first Paper Mario, when Peach sneaks out of her prison, she ends up reading Bowser's diary, which confirms that he has a crush on her. In Super Paper Mario, Bowser is more than pleased by the idea of the forced marriage between him and Peach, even calling her his wife throughout the game. Poor thing… he's lonely…

Fawful—Mario
Yeah, I'm sure you've never heard of Fawful, and if you have, you're questioning my opinion. Well… TOO BAD. Anyhow, Fawful is quite interesting to talk about… not much is known about him. Pushing my fan fiction aside, I can conclude what is confirmed. At the end of Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story… remember when he said he'd disappear forever with us? Yeah, um… he's dead. He committed SUICIDE. You know… FOR KIDS!

I feel bad for Asriel, possibly one of the most tragic characters in Undertale. Just think about it. His love and loyalty was rewarded with death and violence. He, against his will, was turned into a soulless flower, unable to feel or love anymore. He's so embarrased about all of this, he refuses to go to the surface with all of the other monsters. Even when he just wanted to lay down Chara, his best friend's, body, he was brutally attacked. BUT HE REFUSED to attack back! He's, I'd say, almost Papyrus-level innocent, maybe even more.

And yet, he was not rewarded for this. He was punished.

To be honest, in the anime, she gets only 3.5/12 episodes alive, I think she got killed off WAYY to early, I wish we got to see her more and THEN kill her off (like maybe episode 9 with Kyoko when maybe trying to help her fight Octavia/Sayaka), I think episode 3 was way too early for her to die, even though she does come back in the last 5 minutes of episode 12 and in Rebellion and the new movie (the one coming out this fall).

MAJOR SPOILERS INCOMING! SCROLL PAST THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TWO OF THE BEST GAMES I HAVE EVER PLAYED (Mother 3 and Undertale) TO BE SPOILED FOR YOU!

Claus/Masked Man from Mother 3….
Poor little dude ;-; All because of his mom's death, he had to go through so much

I died a little inside after the first chapter when the game said “Claus went missing”. I forgot why he left though, but I felt really sorry for him at that point. And then him becoming the Masked Man….. Also, the ending of Mother 3 is what really makes me cry. You have to fight him with feels heavy on your shoulders at all times. Just….look up that boss, then cry your little heart out. I say that boss fight was better then Asriel's boss fight. Sure, it was sad but……unlike that battle, there was a SADDER cutscene, and after that, it was SADDER than all the events after the flashback to Asriel and Chara. I felt feelsy, but I didn't cry. But the FINAL Masked Man battle? Even the main character can't hit his bro! And I cried a lot……..from the flashback to the music and the emotions I felt, this honestly was the sadder fight.
But that dosn't mean that I don't feel pity for Asriel.
His story is pretty sad. He lost his best friend and became souless….that's dark and depressing. And in the no mercy run when Flowey/Asriel learns how to feel again before it was too late…..dang.

I also feel sorry for Sanspai. He loved his bro so much……but when Papy dies, his world just…shadders. And if you kill Toriel, you keep getting hit with Sans's story and the game constantly reminding you about her. Sorry Asgore……
But dear god, Toriel is HARSH. I feel more sorry for Asgore than her. If you've ever seen the Nuteral ending when you beat him and how Asgore says that he just started killing humans because of one mistake/announcement out of anger….he's one of the saddest characters in game. That's why I didn't really like Toriel all that much. (Even though I did say at the end of the Pacifist route I would stay with her.) She was just too harsh on King Fluffybuns.

Oh and Luigi. Most of you can easily know why I feel sorry for him.
(Also, I DO feel bad for Asriel, but not as much ;-; )

Yeah. Silver's not even that bad.

I honestly have to agree. I mean, sure he appeared in a bad game, but I think he has a pretty good personality compared to a lot of other characters. It's like, for example, a character who is awesome in every single way gets hate just for being in the worst game ever. That isn't fair judgment, isn't it?

yeah, i've seen people treat alphys like pure garbage (calling her the ugliest character in undertale, posting art of her just to make fun of her, etc) and it's really sad. she seems to struggle through a lot of problems in-game as well, such as social anxiety and not feeling like she's good enough to be as true to herself as she should be in front of people. there's this theory that she commits suicide in the non-pacifist endings too, and it's really sad. :-(

the amount of people that use the wrong pronouns for frisk, chara, and napstablook is ridiculous. im so sick of calling people out and explaining that, no, a character's pronouns aren't “up to the player's interpretation”, they're the ones used in the game. calling frisk/chara/napstablook girls/boys because “that's what i think they r lol” is like calling mario a girl. the mario games don't explicitly state that mario is a manly man and has and will only ever be a manly man, but the characters use “he” in reference to him and so the world just automatically accepts that he is a guy and doesn't try to change that. why can't it be that way with frisk/chara/napstablook? i think part of it has to deal with the little awareness that nonbinary people, you know, actually exist, and a lot of the people i've spoken to about the issue have absolutely no awareness that being nonbinary is a thing, and it's sad. i kinda wish toby fox kinda. went over it more, but i think that would've been hard to include in the game without retracting from the story.
