Banning Follow for Follow.
(Quoted from the “Fighting against Follow for Follow!” Studio: https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/1742767/projects/)
Ugh, F4Frs, right?
They go to your profile, follow you, then ask for one in return.
You say “No, I personally don't do Follow For Follow…”
Then there's the spamming.
Over and
Over and
Over and
Over.
At this point, you've had it. There are a bazillion comments on your profile saying “plz folaw me i falliw u”
You're just done, right? Nowhere to run until you follow them. Spamming, spamming, spamming away.
Forced F4F IS ILLEGAL ON SCRATCH OFFICIALLY.
Some notes from the studio:
Nova's note:
Not only is F4F spam on Scratch, but it goes against what Scratch is for! Scratch is not a competition for fame. Followers aren't points in a game. Also, when you happen to look through your follower list, don't you want to think “These people are following me because of my hard work or help,”? Not that you went and begged for it, for those followers aren't true followers.
Ink's Note:
I don't hate F4Frs, but I hate the concept of forced F4F. One thing is normal non-intentional F4F. For example, Novakitty followed me, then I followed her (Why in heck did she or ANYONE ever follow me?!) because I liked her projects.
It's another thing to do it for popularity…
I know a Scratcher (who's name will NOT be mentioned…) who did F4F. At the height of it, around August. I had 67 followers, and SHE had 112. One month later, I had 80 and she had 60. Why? She said on her profile, “I'm ending my F4F deal.” She then unfollowed everybody that counted as an F4F'er. Blip, blip, blip. She lost almost half of how many she had. I feel bad for her to be honest, but I guess that's what you get.
@TheFarEnd's note: Nova is soo right. Followers are NOT points, and Scratch is not a game! Followers are just a way to track the activity of someone you like. And besides, you would want to look at your followers and say, “I must have been a good Scratcher to get this many followers” and not ,“ I must have followed a billion people to have these many followers!” With F4F you don't know which of you followers love you, or which love your FOLLOWS . And always remember, spamming is an offense which could get a ban, so report anyone who spams you like that. Also, if you are a good Scratcher, why would you need F4F?! People would naturally follow you even if you don't follow back!
Cashew's note:
ok, not to offend anyone who does f4f, But the point of scratch is to help the community. And some people just go on scratch for followers. Some people. But just some of those people. They just want to become popular, so they do f4f -_- what i'm trying to say here, is, follows should earned, not traded for. If you don't do f4f, and you have legit followers, then you can truly be popular. On the inside, and on the outside.
@LuigiFan5204's note:
K, so I have about 250 followers, and I DON'T do F4F. That's cuz people LIKE my projects & mah hard work. People who do F4F make projects like “Untitled 9001”
and in that project is just a Cat in the middle of the screen. Here iz my opinion: Getting followers with F4F is CHEATING. It's like using AR codes in video games. (Ok, I confess, I LOVE using AR codes on video games but not Scratch.) Da other thing iz dat asking 4 fallow4falliw is SUPER DUPER ULTRA MAX XTREAM RAD ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't want that spam on meh profile. It not good. I not like dat. But if u make good projects and DON'T f4f, dat good. Me like dat. ;D
Pixelaaron's note:
F4f is horrible i wish it were banned, ppl go on me profile and ask me to f4f and me say "no thx person i do not do dem f4f. And dey should say u kno wat i do no more f4f. Thanks inkspot ur awesome for making a gr8 studio
@Above's note:
-Just like what @LuigiFan5204's comment said: followers aren't points in a video game. If you had 99999 followers, and made horrible projects, those followers are meaningless, if they don't even like your content you post.
@stickmanwithgun ‘s note:
I used to do f4f and I found out it was unfair. Some scratcher said that it was unfair as they make cool projects and get follows. And I think we should stop spamming for f4f on people’s profile. Sometimes people cheat me and unfollow me. I suggest we stop f4f.
@Jumpinjoe ‘s note
I hate f4f because followers should be earned, not traded. If you want a follow, make some actual quality projects first.
@ToastDemon ’s note:
Why does F4F even exist? Like someone said, it's not about fame. It's way more than that. I do Scratch for fun, and because I like it. I don't do it for fame.
@ScratchToonz's note:
F4F is pointless.
@Tarlach's note:
meh, f4fs probably led to the collapse of my fanbase, oh well. I do mean to offend, since f4fs are the most pointless thing, like, ever. someday you'll be in my shoes.

Honestly, even though we're friends no support.
It doesn't really harm you, and you can just as easily delete or report comments.

Banning Follow for Follow.
Follow for Follow isn't against the Community Guidelines, so its allowed on Scratch. However, forcing people to follow them or spamming Follow4Follow requests definitely isn't and should be reported.
By the way, there's already a topic about this going on here. Please go support/add to the existing suggestion rather than making a new one.

Here's the reasoning from that topic:

However, I don't think we will be acting on your suggestion - because it's not enforceable (how would you stop people from asking for f4f?) and it's essentially harmless (if you don't want to participate in f4f, just politely decline). Tell them that you prefer to follow based on things you find interesting.
If somebody continues to spam you for f4f (after you have asked them politely to stop) - or tries to pressure you to follow them - then you may want to get the Scratch Team involved.
