Publish your scratch game on Steam??

First of all, sorry if I repost this topic multiple times, I just don't know where to find answer. Thanks.

Hello

Recently I found out that there is a software that is based on Scratch called BYOB (Snap) from UC Berkeley that can help combine your .sb file (Not .sb2, but that's okay) to .exe file.

So my question is:

Can we submit that .EXE file to Steam Greenlight.

==========================

Sure, I know scratch limitations, but after looking at Steam Greenlight, It looks like it's very possible for scratch to have a chance.

It's possible. If it is a proper .exe file and meets all the requirements, definitely.

You can, but it's incredibly likely that it will be very poor quality compared to other Steam games. You can't do much in Scratch besides very basic graphic effects, it has low performance, only 30FPS, and very low resolution as well.

I wouldn't bother.

Don't use steam, for it is proprietary.

That doesn't change the fact that it is proprietary, and therefore by nature is unethical.

what is ethical and what is not depends on the person you ask.

I'd just like to ask how exactly steam is unethical if we ignore the two major arguments:
1) Freedom
and
2) Privacy
As I have the freedom to voluntarily exchange some of my freedom and some of my privacy for a service or money. Think of it as a job, you're exchanging some freedom (you can't just not turn up, you lose that freedom of choice) and some privacy (the employer has to know government issued unique information to employ you legally) for money, why should I not be able to do the same for software?

According to Google definition of Proprietary:
“Relating to an owner or ownership.
'the company has a proprietary right to the property'”

So basically I think it means you will give up some of your rights to the ownership of the game.
This Steam link may be helpful.

I would publish on itch.io instead. You don't have to pay fees and stuff in order to publish there. This wiki link describes how to publish there.

No, badatprogrammingibe is saying that because Steam is proprietary (the opposite of libre), it is bad as it is unethical due to you not having the right to distribute, modify or see the source of code of Steam as this is a violation of it's EULA and copyright law.
Libre (free as in freedom) software is under a form of license that makes the software libre, sometimes this is referred to as “open source” but is a misuse of that term. Most of the time, libre software gives you the right to modify, distribute and see the source code of the software you're using.
Libre software is often referred to as free software and non-free software is often referred to as proprietary.
