Chapter 1

“What's beyond the hills, Celia?” I asked, looking out my long, arched window.
“I'm not sure Scarlet, all I know is whoever goes there never comes back, at least that what Mother says, and that's were Uncle Jimmy went and never came back” Celia replied.
“Well I want to go there, I'll ask Father” I said. I turned my back and started to leave the room when Celia grabbed my arm and I turned.
“You can't go! Remember what happened to Uncle Jimmy! And you have a life here!” she said pleedingly.
“First of all, have you ever thought that Uncle Jimmy, might have liked it there? And Second of all, how about you and I go there together, then when we get back, tell Mother and Father about it and then move there” I told her.
“Even if Mother and Father do say yes, everyone knows that the only way out of Aurora is by………. Failing the test…. We cant fail! We just cant. We cant become colourless!” she said.

“Dont worry, after our test tomorrow we can just sneek out the gates, we'll be really respected because we all know we're going to get bronze or silver since Mother and Father are both silvers” I said. “Well ok, lets got ask them” she said a little bit worried. We ran down the stairs were Father was reading the newspaper.
“Father” I said. “I was wondering if Celia and I could go to the village on the other side of the mountains. Every few months I see sparkles in the sky reading welcome to the village, and bes” I stopped.
“Yes” Father said. “But why? Why can't Celia and I go - wait Yes? Just like that? Well okay” I said excitedly.
“I wanted to explore when I was your age and what better way then exploring the village!” He said.
“But you can only go if you get a bronze or a silver in the test tomorrow” Mother added. “DEFINATLY” Celia and I said. And we ran up to pack our bags.
