SafeChat?
I've seen many children's MMOs with some sort of safechat with only selected phrases you can say. I'd find this useful in an MMO project where you need some communication, so would this be allowed?

i.e. you can only say a few phrases, and absolutely nothing else? That would probably be ok, as there's pretty much no potential for someone to type bad words or to bully someone.

That's what Webkinz World does. It has a thing called KinzChat in the Clubhouse and Kinzville Park. It also has something called KinzChat Plus, where you can write your own words, but if a word is in orange or red, you can't post it, and if you get reported you're sent a message, and if you talk about something where the words are allowed but is still inapropriate, then you get messaged, and if that happens enough, then you're banned. Interesting idea!
“Once a wise man told me. ‘Family don’t end in blood.’ But it doesn’t start there either. Family cares about you. Not what you can do for them. Family is there for the good, bad, all of it. They got your back. Even when it hurts. That’s family” -Dean Winchester

Oh I think this idea sort of ruins the whole idea of scratch being a community where people can share ideas and help others improve.

How so? It's for an MMO sort of game. Not for the website. Oh I think this idea sort of ruins the whole idea of scratch being a community where people can share ideas and help others improve.

gxlI'm confused. This is for an MMO, not for the website itself. How are you supposed to communicate otherwise in it?
Agreed..

This is a cool idea! I might make a chat room (not a MMO) like this (but it would work by safe words not phrases) if that's ok with you. ![](http://beta.scratch.mit.edu/scratchr2/static/djangobb_forum/img/smilies/smile.png)

I prefer word blacklists to word whitelists since they can be inconveniencing if you type slang or brands.

But you can still swear very easily with blacklists and whitelists. In the same way! Say you want to say pie, but pie is a swear word: I prefer word blacklists to word whitelists since they can be inconveniencing if you type slang or brands.

You can do that with comments too.
You can do that with comments too, although comments can be reported. I'll definitely add a feature that lets you delete mean comments, but we still need some way to track/report mean users.Or justBut you can still swear very easily with blacklists and whitelists. You would have to have a chatroom where you can only us if there is a moderator

Well you would not need moderators if you had a limited selection of phrases and then turned them into a recognisable by the other projects like 1, 2, 3 and so on, which turns into the phrase typed in…

That could work
Not if online contains (moderator)
Brodcast “sorry there isn't a moderator online, switching to 0-9 key chat”
Oh and also team fortress 2 has a 0-9 key gameplay-oriented chat ie:
0: yes
1: no
2: battle cry
3: spy!
Etc:

Filtering rude words isn't that basic ~ my dad does filters for the local school and we also search for characters inbetween letters, so for instance, p-i.e would be recognised . Sorry for misreading post earlier c:
